Charley's new Walking Coat

September 15th, 2006, 09:33 PM
So I was shopping the other day in a pet store and noticed they had safety vests for dogs, you know the ones that have reflective strips? Anyway, they wanted $35 for it... So I made my own!

Here's Charley's new walking coat. Its made out of waterproof nylon and has a button hole on the back to slip the leash through to connect to his harness. The reflective tape is 3M and I got it at Fabricland.

WOW, great job:thumbs up , Charley looks very proud wearing his new coat:dog: :king: (Q) Why do dog coats have hoods? Do they actually wear them?

I add the hood for three reasons
1. Cuts down on the draft/rain/snow going down his back
2. Yes, he can wear it, and I cut it back so he can wear it and wlak without it covering his eyes.
3. Its just plain cute!

Too funny, that's exactly the word we use to describe him in his clothing!

Since it takes me so long to make them it wouldn't be cost effective to mass produce them. I just made one for a friend's malamute and when all was said and done, it took over 4 hours. Charley's coats are smaller (less pinning of paterns to material, less cutting, less sowing, etc) and only take me 2 hours or so.

Here's Skadi in her new red coat (and yes, she really is that big!)
