My not-so-furry friends....

August 31st, 2006, 08:47 PM
These guys are one reason why I love it here...

The 3 and a 1/2 musketeers:

This tile isn't big enough for the both of us...

Yes it is. Move over.

It ain't easy being green... Well, maybe sometimes.. Like when we just get to wander around with these big black furry things protecting us...

Hey, how'd you get so big?

Just hangin' out by the flower pot..

This is the biggest toady around...

And last but not least, a sort of furry... (not my favorite, but he was around today... )

Don't your dogs chase them?

August 31st, 2006, 09:08 PM
Nope... If the toads jump on jemma and boo, the doggies jump. But otherwise, they let them be.

Here are crappy (unfocused) pics of the toads with their big brother and sister... :D

Jesse doesn't try to eat frogs, but she is highly interested in them. She stares at them, then gets close to them, then jumps away from them and starts checking them out again, but she never allows herself to get too close to them. Now lizards -- that's another story. Since we live in Florida, there are lizards everywhere. Thankfully, they are too fast for her and she has not caught any yet, but boy does she try! She chases lizards everywhere and I swear they tease her because they will get on the windows and sit there as she is jumping and lunging towards them and they don't move. It's like nanee nanee boo boo!

Anyway, sorry for the slight threadjack. I love your non-furry looking friends! Frogs are great (except when they are in your toilet!).

Frogs are great (except when they are in your toilet!).

Certainly hope you check first. :D

My dogs have caught little lizards here too. And a baby crow. :frustrated:

wow Prin there's so many princes waiting to be kissed in your backyard :D

August 31st, 2006, 10:42 PM
lol I've tried. All I get is a handful of goo. :D

Jesse's mommy, that's not a hijack.. We're still talking about reptiles/amphibians in our yards. :D

Once in a while, a really big fast one will catch Jemma's eye, but she loses interest really quickly. I think that my attitude toward the toads changed their attitude toward them. They know that I like them and they're part of my pack.:D

Aww Prin,I wish I had froggies,they are soo cute:love:
Then again, adding to my outdoor menagerie, what would I feed frogs?:D
My cats would be hopping right behind them:D
The caterpillar is beautiful!

aw they are too cute. over the years, we've taught our dogs the word "babies"... oh look at the little bay-bees... and that means don't hurt em! It works unless something is really fast and then the prey drive kicks in
Good Jemma and Boo!

September 1st, 2006, 10:35 AM
oh wow Prin, Simon wouldn't know which one to pop in his mouth first (he's sooooo fast). Great that Jemma and Boo let them be, I would love to not be on frog patrol during our nightly walks! :thumbs up

lol they even let me shoo the froggies off the road when we walk at night. Stupid froggies always go onto the road. One day, when I'm too rich for my own good, I'll pave over a swamp, just to give the frogs and toads somewhere to go so they don't go in the street. :D (I'm kidding- exactly why I think humans shouldn't interfere with the beasties- we never know what's best- we're not them! );)

 pave a swamp! "pave paradise put up a parkinglot"

Did you learn in bio about the trenches that they dig under the roads in the UK for "frog highways"? Pretty cute. I think we should have those here too.

Toads are icky....Frogs are icky....

i forgot to comment on the caterpillar. He's quite a character with all that hair in his face. :troll:

i wonder if that's his bum or head i'm looking at hehe

September 1st, 2006, 09:33 PM
Well, with the black antennae thingies, I hope it's his head. :D

September 1st, 2006, 09:42 PM
I just thought of something.....jiorgi, please don't take that the wrong way. :D

September 1st, 2006, 10:11 PM
I dunno how my dogs would react to toads.
They both eat bugs, but walnut seems pretty gentle with actual animals. I haven't let her get near a toad though so I dunno.

Toads are cute, but every time I pick them up they pee on me, so I don't pick them up anymore. :frustrated:

I love frogs, not too much toads....they look like they have a skin disease ! I have a couple around here :yuck: I've heard they taste yucky, that's why they don't get eaten.I know Daisy spit one out last summer.....My cocker spaniel (a looong time ago) used to love to roll on dead frogs....:yuck:

I vaguely remember it... The ones in Banff are more memorable (for elk and things).

My dad's Jack apparently kills toads. I had to rescue one today before he saw it.
