Eagle Pack

For those of you that feed Eagle Pack and have been hearing rumours that the company was sold, here is a copy of a letter received by someone on another forum:

Thank you for your inquiry. I'm not sure how these rumors start or
how they become rampant so quickly. It's almost gotten to the point
that if you read it on the internet, it must not be true. Three
years ago we partnered with a private equity group to provide
capital for plant, equipment and warehouse expansions. I was running
the company at that time and still am today. While several of the
original owners have retired, each member of our current senior
management team has been with the company for a minimum of 10 years.

It seems that as we grow and more people become aware of the amazing
results with our products, our competition spends a great deal of
time trying to sabotage our growth. I would think they would have
better things to do.

We are currently in the process of adding additional dog and cat
formulas to our Holistic Select line, as well as upgrading our
current formulas, in bright newly re-designed packaging. We have
added additional custom supplements in many cases and have removed
ingredients such as brewers rice and brewers yeast, due to consumer
requests. In many of the formulas we did replace barley with white
rice. White rice is brown rice with the bran/fiber layer removed,
making it more digestible and ideal for dogs with sensitive
stomachs. We have become the pet food for dogs with sensitive skin
and stomachs and white rice plays a key role in our success. Thank
you for using our products.

Best Regards,

Hmmm.. That's good news since I'm switching back to EP Fish. There is brewers rice in that formula. So that gets rid of one ingredient that I didn't like.. although the beet pulp is still in there. But I think that is what is helping Bubba have normal poop. So I'll have to deal with it. I hope though that the other 'custom supplements' don't cause any digestive problems or I'll be back at square one :fingerscr

Any idea why fiber from brown rice is bad, while fiber from beet pulp or other sources is good?

White rice is cheaper... A ton of companies say the same thing about brewer's rice, but it's just for cost saving, IMO. White rice might be easier to digest, but it definitely doesn't have the vitamins and things that brown rice does.

Beet pulp is not a superstar either. I'd prefer not to have it in my dogs' food. It's not the same as rice though. Rice speeds things up and moves things along and beet pulp is more of a constipator (search for "stool hardeners" here- there's a whole thread about them somewhere).
