Making some progress with fearful dog

Hi all -

Just wanted to post something positive for a change. I've been working with a head halter, citronella collar & tons of patience...and my dog seems to be making huge changes. (Finally!!) :thumbs up

The citronella collar is used very infrequently & is reserved for off leash when we can't control him any other way. He no longer digs now and when we stopped using it - he still didn't dig!

We put the head halter on when company comes and gently pull up when he won't stop barking. This way we also feel more confident that he won't bite our visitor which has almost happened in the past.

Once he settles down a bit (and the hackles go down), I get him to give the visitor kisses (lick on the hand) and have them offer him treats. After he has kissed them he seems to relax a lot more...any idea why this would be? What is the significance of licking someone's hand to dogs? Just curious why it works so well.

That is submissive behaviour
