I have a Dobi/Shepard mix that has a beautiful coat in cooler weather, but living in the south, it is VERY hot at this time...his coat gets very thin & dry...the vet told me to put veggie oil on his food...doesn't help. Can anybody help on making a heathlier looking coat?:dog:

Fish! What food are you feeding? If you feed a fishy based food, the fur will get softer than you can imagine.
Here are a couple to look at:
Solid Gold Wolf King (http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/products/showproduct.php?id=62&code=170)
Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato (http://www.omhpet.com/dogs/wellness_detail.asp?pCode=dryDogSup5MixSwtPot)
DVP's Sweet potato and Fish (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/dogformulas/SPFish.html)
And Timberwolf Organics Ocean Blue (sorry I can't link it directly): http://www.timberwolforganics.com/cgi-bin/cp-app.cgi?&pg=ste_oform
The best results would come from eating those, but if money is really tight or you just don't want to switch foods, you could get a salmon oil supplement, or Omega 3 supplement.
Also, I found out this summer that a doggy who lies in the sun too much ends up with dry fur.:o

I can attest to the wonders of what Solid Gold Wolf King can do. I have a Shepherd/Chow mix who's fur is more Shepherd than Chow and it's soooo shiny and soft (used to be dull and coarse). My Pointers fur is the same too.
