Hello

Just curious how many cats & dogs you all have and weather they are indoor outdoor animals?
For those of you more then 2 do you think its totally worth it ?

I have two doggies (both indoor and on the sofa). I would like a third, but when I doggy sit, that idea tends to cool for a while... I think two doggies fit me just right.

I have one dog, lots of fish, and a man that requires more attention than a two year old. He's kind of like my second dog. Does that count?

I have two dogs and a cat. I think it's totally worth it. I want another and when I get my new house I'll be getting one. I think how well behaved your animals are and how much attention and exercise they need determines how many you can have at one time (of course money restrains as well). My dogs are very well behaved and pretty much coach potatoes so to have another wouldn't be too much more difficult. Now if I had dogs that required a lot of attention, exercise, or a ton of attention that may be another story.

I have 3 of my own and usually a foster dog. While I thought 2 was enough and really enjoyed them, when Soozie came along and I had the task of driving her to Edmonton to her "forever home", I looked in her eyes and saw resentment and rebellion. I said to my hubby I could totally adopt this dog. She reminds me of me. When they gave her back we fostered her and went through hell. She peed all over our bed at least once a week, hated other dogs that came into the house and didn't appear to even know her own name. We found her another "forever home" and made them fully aware they had a long road ahead of them. They were "experienced Beagle people" and claimed to know what they were doing. We were happy with this family and signed the forms. 1 week later they called to say she was missing. She just took off from the deck. Well duh. They didn't have a fence and we told them she was not an off leash dog as most beagles aren't. I drove around for 6 hours looking for her while they gave up after 1. Finally I got a call back from animal services saying they had a 1 year old female beagle picked up in the general area, but they were closed so I couldn't even make sure it was here. After a very sleepless night we got there just as they were opening and confirmed they had a very wet, very miserable Soozie. We couldn't take her home though as she wasn't ours. We called and got the family out of bed to come get her. A week later they called to say "it wasn't working out". We went to pick her up and again I could see the rejection was killing her. NO MORE I said to DH and he exhuberantly agreed - he secretly always wanted 3. So we ended up having 3 before we had a finished yard. I don't recommend that. Taking 3 beagles out 5 times a day on a leash is very trying in -30 degree weather and in the rain. Especially when you have one very stubborn beagle hell bent on hating the world. Incidentally, it has taken 1 year to get Soozie to trust me completely and become the most loving, snuggliest, wonderful, surprising little girl ever. I am soooo glad to have 3. Especially after we finished the yard. Peice of cake. In fact (and I am not a hoarder), but Polly on the website looks like she would be no trouble and I would love to give her a great few final years. She is totally deaf, but that really is not a deterrant. If she is in a good home fostering and they love her I don't want her disturbed, but she looks soooo sweet. We'll see.

2 (demonic) kittens....Pawz and Leo both about three months old now....

Pawz is the emotionally/clingy one while Leo is the crazy/Hammy-from-Over-the-Hedge one. Pawz is very stubborn when it comes to medicine (we're working on Plan F now....A through E were failures) and Leo is psychotic at the vet's.

Megan

P.S. We also have an army of flies in the house (our A/C unit doesn't fit properly) and so we use teh cats and the fly-swatter to kill them :p

Well let me see my numbers are dwindling as all my pets were:rip: / are seniors for the most part other then the new ones. Before moving into our current home we had 4 (Muffin,Jasmine,Friday,Nicholas) cats and 2 (Hoover,Carly)dogs all indoor cats, plus some fosters. Moving into this home we had 2 (Jasmine,Nicholas)cats, 2 (Hoover,Carly) dogs. Living here for 3 years now we still have 2 (Ruby,Max) cats, 2(Hoover,Libby) dogs. My hubby and I have agreed that we will always have cats, and at least one dog(maybe 2 if I get my way:o ) One thing I have noticed is that when you get acouple animals that are close in age at the same time they seem to leave us at around the same time as well:rip: sweet  so I think it is better to have different ages in the home

2 huskies - Mia and Lucca
4 cats - Lucy,Millie,Suzy and Albie.

Totally worth it, ask me again, next summer when they all start shedding there fur at the same time and I think you will get a different answer - not really, all loving in their own ways.

Dogs - indoors, cats come and go as they please, though they are usually all in doors or only in our front garden.

I have 3 dogs(2 greyhound 1 eskie) and 2 cats all indoor pets, if the city would allow I would add 2 more greyhounds

Of course the type of dog makes a big difference a dozen retired greyhounds are less of a handful than one hyped up lab or pitty, even when I had 4 greyhounds(fostering) they where a lot calmer all combined than my 1 eskie

We've got 2 pretty kitties, Angus and Finn. We plan on having a couple dogs when we get a house. And I would like to foster cats when we have more space since the man won't let me have more, I figure if we foster then it's inevitable that some of the cats won't find homes so we'll have to keep them:D

2 cats and 1 dog. all are primarily indoor animals. The cats do venture outside, but only for a limited time, and only when I'm home to supervise. The dog obviously goes out to play, run, do his business, but is never left outside for any length of time unsupervised.

it's enough for now. If my work schedule and my bank account allowed for more, I'd certainly have them. I can't imagine my life or my house without those in it now... they are more than worth it.

In the canine department we have Dolly a 13 year old Peke, Phoebe a 6 year old Lab mix, and Meetu a 6 pound, 3 year old Chi. Meetu doubles as our watch dog. She was born here when we fostered her mother who was seized in a puppy mill raid. Another one of our fosters, a brown tabby kitten who arrived when he was around 3 days old is proudly owned by our daughter who still lives at home. Right now we are fostering 9 kittens who came when they where around 21/2 to 3 weeks old. They are now just about ready to find forever homes. And finally we have a new litter of 6 kittens that where born last Tues. Some of them have an eye open. I should mention that the brown tabby is Molson and he got his name because he arrived here in a Molson 6 pack carton.

My family consists of me, my hubby, 2 dogs, 4 cats and NO human children - aren't I smart

Dogs:
Jersey - Border Collie/St. Bernard from the pound - best dog in the world
Tinkerbell - Doberman/German Shepherd from the pound -survived Parvo at 9 weeks (thus the name ) was supposed to be a terrier mix HAHAHAHAHA - pain in the butt, thinks she's a lap dog and hyper deluxe - got to love her

4 cats:
Puppy - solid black - 19 yrs old - named because she chewed up shoes as a kitten - old, but still happy
Tiger Lily - really cool long Calico -7ish - trapped her behind a pool hall - feral - took 6 weeks before I could even touch her - now she's the LOVE bomb.
Indy - white w/ black spots - 4 - from pound - He's fat, really fat (eats food left out for the skinny 20 yr old) and lovey - he's the DON
Dega - really cool short tortoise shell - 3 1/2 - (actually Indy's cat) - SPCA - a bit feral - still bites and scratches when we play - I'm always covered in scars - but she gets lovier every year

These are my babies...the loves of my life.

Momof6, when I read your post, it looked like this:Dogs:
Jersey - Border Collie/St. Bernard from the pound - best dog in the world
Tinkerbell - Doberman/German Shepherd from the pound -survived Parvo at 9 weeks (thus the name ) was supposed to be a terrier mix
HAHAHAHAHA - pain in the butt, thinks she's a lap dog and hyper deluxe - got to love her
And because of the format, I really thought you had a third dog named HAHAHAHAHA (even though it says "2 dogs" right above it :o). Poor doggy must be so confused! :D

3 cats and sbsolutely indoors - the Siamese goes out more on a leash or in a stroller but the Sphynx hate the outdoors. Even if I had long haired cats tho, they would be indoor cats - they are too many dangers to let cats go outdoors. I was just talking to a friend in Ottawa who has a new kitten and was dismayed to see one of the neighbourhood cats running loose outside. She was ondering whether to call the SPCA re neglect but I suggested it was not a wise idea - I don't know what the SPCA is like in Ottawa and at least yhe kitty has a good home, except for the fact they let him outdoors. Granted, if they had adopted him from the SPCA, he would have to be an indoor cat but I wonder if they actually verify that sort of thing. Here anyway - not sure about Ottawa, lol

Forgot pt 2 of the Q, yes, it is absolutely worth it!!!! Why would it not be? <g>

Unfortunately I lost my rescue Bella (cat)2 years ago...would I have more...DEFINATELY! I train with them regularly, I take no chances with my family they are #1.

All 3 are good friends and they keep each other company when I have to leave them - which isn't often... They are all indoor/outdoor animals - in when I'm away and at night and outside when I'm outside (for the most part that is)...

As always we have too many cats! We work with a rescue to spay or neuter and rehome cats. Right now we've got about 20 in the house and that is not including 3 litters of kittens. 7 of them are our own pet housecats...the others will all move out eventually.. and then more will come in. The house is a zoo.

We also have 3 dogs, 2 horses, cattle, chickens, and an assortment of other birds. Life is crazy at home. Right now we have 3 or 4 yowling unspayed females who are in heat. I can't wait until their spay appointments next week!

I have two rescued indoor cat's and a rottie dog, Trouble is a beautiful black siamese/cross that my hubby rescued from Tim Horton's parking lot during an ice storm, and Ty-D-Bowl, is a very very large cat that really remind's me of a raccoon more than a cat, he's big, gorgeous, klutzy, and is constantly looking for something else to eat (hence the name), who we rescued from a girl we knew cause he was eating her out of house and home....and of course now he is eating "us" out of house and home, neither of them go outside at all, and I love them both dearly.

I also have a rottie dog, Stinker, she is our "guard" dog, or at least that's what my hubby got her for originally, until I came on the scene and made a family pet out of her....I get so frustrated with the stereotypes for Rotties, big tough, mean, yeah right!!! Mine is afraid of the dark, hate's wind, is scared of rain, doesn't like the snow, is terrified of thunder and lightning, etc etc....in fact both my cat's are tougher than my rottie dog! She's thinks that she's a 100lb lap dog :D

Right now we have 5 dogs, 1 cat and a fish.

Brin - 4 yrs - Vizsla
Kera - 4 yrs - German Shorthaired Pointer
Blue - 1.1/2 - G.S.P
Trixi - 7 months - G.S.P
Xena - 11 wks - Vizsla

Trixi is Kera's daughter, and Xena is Brin's daughter. We had Mikey, Blue's father, until January when he passed.

The cat is Bear, but mostly we just call him "kitty", it is much easier for our daughter. The fish has no name, he just swims around in his bowl in my daughter's room.

I would love to have more, the ones we have now are totally worth it. The two Vizslas stay in the house all day, they are too sucky to be anywhere else (Xena is currently sleeping in my hamper of CLEAN laundry), and the GSP's are in the kennel during the day, but indoors at night. The cat was found outside, so he still stays out most of the time.
