We got a 1-year-old Chihuahua about a month ago. She was 90% pad trained when we got her. I was out of town for 3 days and my husband was not consistent with leaving the pads out. He assumed she would just use the doggy door to go outside like our other dog does. Now she keeps going in the house! She has not used the pad once. I have tried to baby gate her in the kitchen with the pads and even sat in there with her for over an hour and no luck! As soon as she gets out of being corralled or out of her crate or climbs out the baby gate she will very quickly run away from me and go to the bathroom on the carpet. How can I get her to start using the pads again? I have never pad trained a dog, as this is the first small breed dog I have owned. I would really like for her to be able to use pads as they are a much easier clean up. Any help is appreciated.

Why do you want to train her to use pads? Is there a reason you don't train her to go outside like your other dog does?

My other dog is a larger dog, so pads won't work. We are living in a condo right now and pads would be best. I have tried taking her outside, but she won't go out there either.

Sorry for not answering sooner but I don't get on here as much as I used to. :(
I guess I really don't have an answer for you though as I've never used the pads with any of the many dogs I've had. If she were my dog, I would still train her to go outside regardless of size. I know there are some members here that have used the pads. Perhaps they can help you.

Thanks Rainbow. She is starting to go outside more than she uses the pads. I wish she would do both, but maybe it just isn't meant to be that way.

Oh, and when she starts to "go" outside, but still "goes" in the house alittle, maybe get a roll of grass or turf or whatever you call it and put it in the baby crate and leave her there and see what happens? Just a suggestion.
