Puppy Toys

Hi! I do not have a dog yet, but I am preparing to get a puppy, either from a shelter, or from one of the many unplanned litters in this area (she will be spayed by 6 months or immediately if she is older than that when I get her). I have started getting the necessities: bedding, treats, kennel, leash, collar, bowls, baby gate and of course, toys! I got a toy today that looked really good to chew on. It is called Pup Treads, it is a natural rubber bone. What worried me after I got it home is that there is white paint on it for decoration that is peeling off. Do you think it is ok to give a pup? What if I went ahead and peeled all the paint off (it comes off pretty easily) and washed it good? What are your dogs favorite toys?

My husky had one of those and destroyed it in about 1/2 hour. If the dog you are getiing is an aggressive chewer I wouldn't give it to him/her. The only toys I give my dogs are the Kongs in various shapes and sizes which are indestructible. Or nylabones, although they only last a week or two. :pawprint:

there is another tire toy that is a little stronger. It's the "Pawtracks TireBiter". Layla has one, she is an aggressive chewer, and it has survived, but she hates it.
Fave toys.... cuz, bamboo, orbee, kong, those orhange balls people use for floor hockey, planet dog nut and bolt.... the list goes on.

Puppyluv, I've never heard of some of those. What's a cuz, a bamboo, and an orbee. I'm always looking for toys that are for aggressive chewers. Are they all indestructible and where did you get them?

The only toys I give my dogs are the Kongs in various shapes and sizes which are indestructible.

Kongs are certainly NOT indestructible. to date, Tucker has managed to destroy a puppy kong, a red kong, and 2 black kongs. In fact, I have yet to find a toy that is truley indestructible. I still use kongs, but know they are NOT indestructible.

Tucker also managed to destroy the Orka Jack. (it's tough too, but not indestructible)

However, The Squirrel Dude has held up remarkably well w/ my dog.

The only ball to survive my dog is the Buddy Glow Ball.

jessi, you should try planet dog. They're not indestructible, but they replace them for free as soon as they start to break.

I meant to say orka, not orbee. Orbee's are planet dog's.

Cuz: Originally just the good cuz, and bad cuz, there are now fish, octupi, etc. The original "hard bad cuz" is the strongest. Layla can destroy the other ones, but the first one I ever got her is the hardest. The rubber is so thick I can barely squeeze it: http://www.dog.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=101415+SM+GOO&Cat

Planet dog nut and bolt: A more pleasent rubber to chew on (imo)

Bamboo: Again, replaced if destroyed

Orka: Jessi posted the Jack, that and the tube are my faves. I like the tube because of different textures, but the fabric part is destroyed quickly.

Before you buy a whole bunch of toys, I would find out what your dogs chewing behaviour is like. Some dogs, regardless of breed are not interested in chewing. My parents' dog is only interested in soft toys, so buying an indestructible one would be a waste of money. Just something to think about.
