OntarioGreys July 9th, 2006, 08:09 PM The options are so limited
like there is no laugh ones like :lol or :rofl or for frustration :headwall
or a hope one where you have an emoticon is praying :hope
or to expess shock like :jaw or :crazy
or the express love as you think the pup or kitten is a love :Wub
I don't know if this link will work but it shows all the one from another forum that I am used to using http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?s=&act=legends&CODE=emoticons
I don't expect all to be used but feel a bigger variety would be nice
These 2 the :king: & :queen: never seem to get used so better to replace them with something that would be used more often
jesse's mommy July 9th, 2006, 08:20 PM Go to bestsmileys.com they have a ton there.
glasslass July 9th, 2006, 11:25 PM I love the "don't feed the trolls" one!
marko July 10th, 2006, 08:02 AM Ok - We 'll look into it again.
There was a technical issue of all the emoticons showing up on one screen...we'll try to solve it this week.
In the meantime - please list a few emoticons that people feel are missing or would be useful.
Too many emoticons makes the reply boxes larger and lets you see less screen without scrolling - but we're prepared to add maybe 10 more....so please list your preferences.
thx
Marko

Puppyluv July 10th, 2006, 06:59 PM I like the kong on OG's site.. we deffinately need that!
and the "cat scat"
We need a cryer: http://bestsmileys.com/crying/13.gif or http://bestsmileys.com/touced/2.gif
ooh, and "Take your dog to the vet http://bestsmileys.com/medical/5.gif"
a head banger! for sure (like OG posted) and the laugher, the drooler
we need a drinker! http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/2.gif
Skryker July 10th, 2006, 07:15 PM The head-banging in frustration for sure...and a rofl.
Prin July 10th, 2006, 10:20 PM I only want four:
http://bestsmileys.com/excited/3.gif
http://bestsmileys.com/comfort/1.gif
http://bestsmileys.com/freak/2.gif
http://bestsmileys.com/angry1/4.gif
Skryker July 10th, 2006, 10:29 PM http://bestsmileys.com/freak/2.gif
:D
What about http://bestsmileys.com/animals/13.gif and http://bestsmileys.com/animals/14.gif (for something smells rotten here)?
or http://bestsmileys.com/cats2/2.gif for all us potty mouths?
Shamrock July 11th, 2006, 04:16 PM These..:king: :queen: :clown: , the two flags even.. are not really used often, and maybe could be replaced with ones that offer a broader scope.
Emoticons for frustration, lots of laughs, and tears would be nice additions.
Maybe a candle for comfort/postive thoughts.
Another one for  would be good too.
Golden Girls July 11th, 2006, 09:26 PM This one's funny :D
http://bestsmileys.com/signs14/1.gif
Prin July 11th, 2006, 11:05 PM These [took them out because I was over the 8 limit] , the two flags even.. are not really used often, and maybe could be replaced with ones that offer a broader scope.
I asked for the clown to be removed months ago, and Marko said no. So now I've gotten attached to the little freak and you all want him gone?! :clown:
As for these: :queen: :king: we don't use them often, but sometimes they come in handy. Like "We made Boo a cake of 3 different kinds of canned food mixed together with some of his favorite cookies poked into it..:king:" lol No?
And if we get rid of the flags, what will my signature be? :D
Ok, regardless, I don't mind what happens as long as there aren't any puking ones (please).:o
Skryker July 12th, 2006, 12:24 AM Especially no puking ones with sound effects-eeewwww!
I feel like I need a "D'oh!" or a bone-head one. Not that I'm prone to doing silly things or anything  .
Mahealani770 July 12th, 2006, 12:46 PM I would love to see a head-banging frustration emoticon and one that shows shrugging shoulders or something like, "Im sorry I tried" with the slanted smile.
:thumbs up
marko July 27th, 2006, 10:14 AM Hi everyone,
Ok - based on your suggestions and other input we added 9 more smilies.
(Frustrated, shrug, off-topic, pray, RIP, candle, yell, cat, cloud9)
Note - none of them are animated because we find that they are distracting.
Thanks for your patience and we hope you like them
Marko

Prin July 27th, 2006, 10:45 AM Yey! :cloud9:
My posts/day number is going to go down because I have to keep stopping and deciding what to use and then I have to go find it... :D
Where's the doggy smilie?! :cat: ?
Mahealani770 July 28th, 2006, 02:12 PM Has anyone noticed that this emoticon:  looks like it's covering it's ears? lol I sware I thought that's what it was doing...lol
rainbow July 28th, 2006, 03:36 PM Thanks for the new smilies Marko. :thumbs up
I agree with Prin....where's the doggie one? You should really trade the downright ugly clown :clown: for a cute doggie. http://bestsmileys.com/dogs/4.gif
I also agree with Mahealani that  looks like he's covering his ears. :D
dtbmnec July 28th, 2006, 03:52 PM You know the frustrated smiley already came into good use....*mutters* damn cat not wanting his pills...
:D
Thank ye muchly
Megan
marko July 30th, 2006, 07:19 AM Ok Ok - The clown is dead. :rip: Let's light a candle for him :candle:
We added a new doggie smilie in it's place. :dog:
I can see that the shrug smilie  can look like it's covering it's ears. BUT it also does look like it's doing a shrug...doesn't it?
Thanks all,
I do believe that this will be the last addition to the smilie set for a while, so thanks for all the input everyone!
doggy lover July 30th, 2006, 07:26 PM :cloud9: I like it , I like it:dog:
rainbow July 30th, 2006, 08:27 PM Three cheers http://bestsmileys.com/cheering/4.gif the ugly clown is gone. :D
Very cute doggie. :dog:
Thanks, Marko. :thumbs up
I guess if you look real close it kind of looks like a shrug. but more like "I don't want to listen" :D
Skryker July 30th, 2006, 10:14 PM Either way, it works! It can be a shrug  or "La la la, I'm not listening!" :p
Prin July 31st, 2006, 12:30 AM I like the shrug guy. If he's covering his ears, where do his arms originate?
Marko, I got attached to the clown too... Maybe, he could replace this guy: :offtopic: I don't see anybody using that guy unless they want to start a fight...
btw, thanks for the :dog: and the :cloud9: and the :frustrated:- I have a feeling I'm gonna be using them the most.:D
:clown: :(
marko July 31st, 2006, 07:17 AM Marko, I got attached to the clown too... Maybe, he could replace this guy: I don't see anybody using that guy unless they want to start a fight...
I thought of that, and you might be right. If so we'll change back to the clown. But we should at least give it a chance.
For now the clown is dead I  he is in a better place.
:rip: oh sweet freaky clown.
Skryker July 31st, 2006, 10:02 AM For now the clown is dead I  he is in a better place.
:rip: oh sweet freaky clown.
:D That's very  .
Prin July 31st, 2006, 11:55 AM Ok, we'll try out the off topic guy....
Mr Creepy Clown, I won't forget you.:rip: (temporarily)
:offtopic:  :yell: :frustrated:
We have a lot of angry smilies. Are we angry folks here or what? :p :D
(it's ok, because the happy ones outnumber the angry ones...)
Mahealani770 July 31st, 2006, 02:10 PM Thanks Marko for all the new emoticons...we love them!!:thumbs up
I am so floating on :cloud9: now!
However, I was soooo hoping for the guy who bangs his head against a brick wall...I wonder where people go to get that one? :o
Gees, how angry this little guy is :offtopic: lmao!
rainbow July 31st, 2006, 03:36 PM If so we'll change back to the clown.
OMG...No !!! Pleeeese  cremate him. :D
I think we need to give :offtopic: a chance too. Lots of times we go a tad bit off topic in some posts. I just wish he wasn't frowning though. :(
And, the party guy  looks like a dork. Couldn't we find a better party guy? The crazy guy  looks like he'd be a more fun at a party.
And, I think we need a "Congratulations" smilie so if you decide to axe the off topic guy  then replace him with a congratulations smilie.
Prin August 1st, 2006, 12:35 PM However, I was soooo hoping for the guy who bangs his head against a brick wall...I wonder where people go to get that one? :o Go to http://www.bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htm
He's in this section: http://bestsmileys.com/frustrated/
All you do is copy the line (the whole line, including the img's and the brackets) and paste it into the post.
Like this: http://bestsmileys.com/freak/2.gif
There are other sites too, but that one is the easiest...

Frenchy August 1st, 2006, 05:49 PM I'm surprise Jesse's mommy hasn't ask for a smilie with Mattew's face on it :p :cloud9:
jesse's mommy August 1st, 2006, 06:08 PM Well, now that you mention it, how about this:
Prin August 1st, 2006, 06:50 PM I like the crying clown.
Good luck trying to find him lol (unless you steal him directly...).
He's from this site: (well, I guess it does say "clown", so maybe you'll find him...) http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/comik/smile-famous-spike.gif
jesse's mommy August 1st, 2006, 06:54 PM What? You don't like the surfboard emoticon? :D
Prin August 1st, 2006, 06:54 PM Uhh... I was dodging that one... Ever since I saw him in Sex and the City, he's lost a bit of his charm...
jesse's mommy August 1st, 2006, 06:58 PM Doesn't matter to me. He can play bongos in his boxers in my living room any day.
Prin August 1st, 2006, 07:04 PM Did you see that sex and the city episode?:yuck:
I'm gonna ask marko for this one:
http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/tierbaer/pooh_door.gif
Anybody know what he's saying? I don't speak whatever language that is.:o
jesse's mommy August 1st, 2006, 07:05 PM Anybody know what he's saying? I don't speak whatever language that is.:o
I think it's Klingon
Prin August 1st, 2006, 07:11 PM Looks like Russian... I just love these bears. Who knows what this guy is trying to do: http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/tierbaer/pooh.gif

Prin August 1st, 2006, 07:33 PM lol I'm such a moron. They have a little "choose language" thingy at the top. :D
rainbow August 2nd, 2006, 05:36 PM Aww, your new clown doesn't qualify :thumbs up because he's animated and Marko says they're distracting. :D
Note - none of them are animated because we find that they are distracting.
Has anyone found a new party guy that doesn't look like a dork... ?
jesse's mommy August 2nd, 2006, 05:38 PM Has anyone found a new party guy that doesn't look like a dork... ?

Yeah, he's better. How about one with a glass of bubbly in his hand? :D
Puppyluv August 3rd, 2006, 06:38 PM I'm surprise Jesse's mommy hasn't ask for a smilie with Mattew's face on it :p :cloud9:
If she gets a Matthew one, I want a Hoff one :p It would be great.... the mods could use him all the time:
STOP FIGHTING NOW OR ELSE :HOFF:
jesse's mommy August 3rd, 2006, 06:46 PM LOL....you're obsessed with that guy. :D And I don't even know who he is. :o
You don't recognize Matthew McConaughey?
rainbow August 3rd, 2006, 07:01 PM You don't recognize Matthew McConaughey?
Oh, is that who that is. :o I've seen way better pictures of him. He needs to be smiling cuz he's got a great smile. :D
rainbow August 3rd, 2006, 07:04 PM If she gets a Matthew one, I want a Hoff one
Arrrgh, NO !!! He needs to be buried with the creepy clown and the dorky party guy. :D
Frenchy August 3rd, 2006, 07:14 PM Jesse's mommy,I saw on a gossip show the other day (entertainement tonight or else) your Mattew jogging with Lance Armstrong :p pretty sight! I immediatly tought about you, they were saying they are both single now.:)
CyberKitten August 3rd, 2006, 07:34 PM It is not that I dislike change (because I am almost always having to change something in my life or work, lol - it's the only constant - to paraphrase that old saying) but I always thought the number of emotions was about right. Too many emotions - esp when one writer uses many of them in one post - is very distrating and it is the content and meaning of the message itself, not smilies or emoticons - that is important. I tend to use about 3 of the ones avaliable and if I need to find another one for a special occasion, I upload an image I need.
I am not against smilies et al (This IS the web after all (I almost said the internet but the early days of this technology involved a lot of typing and ASCII graphics (think Archie and Veronica and Gopher, used in the early 90's - before browsers, lol - maybe we need a new acronymn, BB, lol) and certainly NO emoticons. <g> As for the web, somehow I doubt Tim Berners Lee was thinking about them when he needed a way to commuicate with his collegaues at Cern and ended up essentially creating what we now know as HTML and its offspring.
I just find any message with too many of the things loses me. It is the equivilant of meandering through an essay written in an unusual way (with bad grammar, a purple font that is hard on the eyes for example). If the message is something I really want to read, I mange to get through it but this is a message board that provides assistance and info and I don't want us to get lost in peripehral issues. If one has to make a crucial point, there are always creative ways to do so.
I still don't know why we have the King and Queen ones, lol (Queen for a cat? - God forbid we promote pregnancy, even amg purebred cats eligible for registration) - Queen as a reference to someone. King as in... ?
I do not look forward to the day these become part of scientific or even editorial writing, lol - tho most serious blogs do quite well without emoticons. I guess it is the writer in me - I love the printed word, or word expressed by bytes, you know what I mean? (I hope!!) <g>
I DO like the emoticon for expressing a wink, since often even the best communication is not regarded in the manner in which the writer intended it and it is a helpful adjunct in that instance.
I do wish one of these days there was some way online communication could instantly improve my typing, lol But I like the emoticons just the way they are. :)
Prin August 3rd, 2006, 09:20 PM CK, the king and queen are for our spoiled pets, who are the :king:s and :queen:s of our homes.
rainbow August 4th, 2006, 11:21 AM Yeah, but they don't get used much and they're about as dorky looking as the party guy. :D
I like using the emoticons. What I don't like is long posts that aren't separated into paragraphs. :frustrated:
Prin August 4th, 2006, 02:48 PM I agree. I think emoticons break up the monotony.:) :dog:
CyberKitten August 4th, 2006, 03:56 PM Ah thx for the explanation Prin - I call YY my sweetheart and the Sphynx Girls are my Princesses. Calling a female cat a Queen to me means they are well, not spayed - and it does not seem a term of endearment. Is there an icon or emticon for sweetheart, lol - or maybe one with a tiara but I'd never use them anyway since they;d be meaningful only to me and my cats, lol
jesse's mommy August 5th, 2006, 09:01 AM Personally I like the emoticons. I like them because this is a public forum and words don't always translate from the mind to paper well, so at times the emoticons can help relate intentions. Like the embarrassed one :o when you aren't sure how something is going over or the frustration one :frustrated: when you keep saying the same thing over and over again. Or the times when you want to relay your best sympathies and are offering support, the group hug :grouphug: helps. This isn't a place where we are lobbying for changes in the government or discussing the problems overseas, but a place a group of regular people to discuss our pets and how we as a group can make the lives of animals better. I say bring on the emoticons. This isn't a place to be "professional", but to enjoy the lives of our pets. :dog: :cat:
rainbow August 8th, 2006, 12:47 PM This isn't a place to be "professional", but to enjoy the lives of our pets.
I agree. :dog: :cat: Well said, Jesse's Mommy. :highfive: :thumbs up
