Long-haired miniature daschund

:) I have a two year old long-haired miniature daschund that always digs holes in the front yard. Is there anything I can do to stop this behavior? My front yard is beginning to look like a war zone! Thanks, Heather

Oh, I think the minature hairy ones are SO cute!!!

Well, you know Doxies are bred to dig and go into burrows after badgers....so this digging behaviour is somewhat hardwired. Perhaps you can set aside a specific digging area? Bury fun things for him/her to dig for, praise for digging in the right place, redirect when digging in the "wrong" place...

That's all I can think of. One of my Rottweilers digs big holes to lie in during the summer; I have a very large seperate area for the dogs when they're outside. I buried long rolls of chicken wire along the fence line so she wouldn't dig under. Otherwise that whole area is a free digging zone for the dogs!
