Hairballs

Ebby and Tony Soprano - living inside since February - both bring up substantial hairballs on a weekly basis. None of my other cats seem to have this problem (if it is a problem). I've noticed that alot of strays overgroom - anxiety? to have something, anything in their tummy?
I give them hairball gel regularly. Do I just let it happen? Is there an end?

Badger,I don't know about cats but I can tell you that everytime I adopted a rescue (and the fosters I had) would loose lots of fur for a couple of weeks. It would get back to normal once they settled.

They did do a bit of shedding at the beginning and their new coats are gorgeous; but they don't overgroom, at least in my presence. Which makes me think this is very old hair and it's coming up now, helped along by their largely canned diet. I just don't know if hairballs are 'a problem'. My vet doesn't believe in them (he's a little weird :)).

Maybe include 2 brushings a week to remove the dead/loose hair so they are not ingesting so much
