Yesterday my dog ate a piece of my kitchen carpet, some dirt, and leaves.
And was choking and throwing it all up.
Today he is normal and eating dog food.
Why does he even start eating non-food items? He has not been neutered.

This is certainly common behavior for many dogs - some of whom will eat rocks!

What breed is your dog? This seems kind of common in some breeds like Labs.

Is your dog a puppy? Puppies often eat all kinds of strange things. Many items eaten can cause serious problems and block the intestines.

If your dog is an adult and just started this (the medical term is Pica) he needs to be checked by a vet.

My dog is the Queen of eating everything and anything.

She ate a tensor bandage.....$1000.00 emergency operation....then developed complications...more $'s

She ate a bucket of Jube Jubes well that poor girl threw up more times then i care to count.

Oh yes there is socks.....ropes..... you name it and this is all in 6 months.

We have become fanatical about closing doors....picking up things. Making sure nothing is with reach. I also put up door separating the kitchen and living room. Has been better.

I have a name for this eating called the garbage can syndrome. By chance was your dog a stray?

Not much can be done other then removing and being aware of objects that can harm.

Good Luck!
