Training your kitten to be a mouser

June 11th, 2006, 05:44 AM
When kitty is about 3 months old catch a mouse in a mouse trap, you don't want kitty to see the mouse until you present it to him, so make sure kitty is outside or in a different room.
Pick up the mouse by the tip of its tail. Walk over to kitty, hold out the mouse and call "Here kitty, kitty, kitty."
As soon as kitty sees and smells the mouse he most probably will show that he really wants it, now drop the mouse right infront of kitty and walk away.

If kitty and his momma cat will be living together, and momma is a good mouser, you don't need to train kitty, momma will teach kitty all the tricks of the trade.

Warning, wear a good pair of heavy jeans and light duty work gloves because if kitty is the "very fearce mouser" type he might climb your pant leg to get the mouse, kitty will hiss and growl if he is about to do this.

This tip presented in memory of "Stripe" the fearcest mouser in the west.
