We have a few mixed breed cats that we are trying to find homes for. We have some blue and flame points that have gorgeous colouring, but they definitely do not look siamese. However, I have people calling in response to my ads telling me that my cats must be siamese if they have pointed colouring. Is this true? I'm assuming that somewhere way back there was something purebred, but these guys are definitely not. They are a mix of everything and don't have the build of a siamese at all. To me they are more of a domestic short hair than anything else. How do breeds and colour work? What breeds can these colours occur in?

These are mostly a result of mixed breeding
This article talks about the breeding of colour points
I can't find a picture of a pointed American shorthair, but lynx points are considered acceptable color forms according to this article

my Cat is a cross between a ragdoll and a dsh.
Hes a lynx point. His mother was a calico tabby DSH,
and his father was a pointed ragdoll, not sure what the pointed
color is called, its a dark greyish with a whitish cream fur.
Heres a pic of a lynx point:

Thanks for the information. I have a cat that I now know is either a snowshoe or lynx -- colours I didn't even know existed. I'm finding all of this quite informative and really appreciate the help.
