injured and smelly

On X-mas eve I discovered that my Aussie had somehow taken off about a 2"X3" piece of skin on a hind leg. showing muscle and ligaments. a trip to the vet to close the wound and 8 days of Cephalexin and there has been almost a constant smell of .....anal gland expression. almost enough to drive me from the room. the wound itself doesn't smell so could the trauma of the injury and the changing of the bandages daily and meds/e-collar be causing the constant expression or leakage? is there cause for concern?

What did the vet say about this?

I'd guess it's possible for the stress to make him express his anal glands frequently, poor guy. But usually dogs are fairly stoic about this sort of thing so I wonder if he has an underlying problem with them? Are the meds making him constipated or giving him soft stool? They get naturally expressed a little when the dog poops, so perhaps that's it. Just a guess, though.

I'd ask the vet too...all I have to offer are relatively uneducated guesses!
