My sister just adopted a 7 month old neutered Yorkshire Terrier. He has been eating puppy food. Never having owned small dogs we are not certain when is the best time to switch from puppy to adult. Do small dogs have special needs whereas they should be on a puppy formula longer?

I've always thought that puppy chow was for the first year. It's high protein and small bite size. Just what those active little pups need.

With little dogs, some breeders say to stop at the time of neutering. They don't take as long to grow as others. So they say.;)

I've always heard to switch when they stop growing.....when they're growth plates flatten out.:D

Den-Den was his full height by 9 months, but he continued to fill out for several months after.
