Some weekend adventures . . . .

Abby and Keeper visited Chain Lakes in southwestern Alberta on Saturday . . . .

A nice portrait of the soaking dynamic duo, Abby and Keeper. This is a generally very arid region, fit only for pasturing cattle, next to the Rockies:

Finding out what's over the next hill is always irresistible. We walked for miles and miles:

An alert Keeper ignores the clouds boiling over the hill behind her . . . . . the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies are public land, leased to ranchers. With no cattle around, we were free to walk as far as we wanted.

Abby investigates a pile of goose down . . . . . a goose obviously met its demise here.

On the way to Chain Lakes, we spotted this buffalo silhouetted against the Rockies near Longview . . . . . the aptly named "Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump," a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is about an hour's drive south of here. This guy is part of a domesticated herd . . . . although his kind wandered this area in the millions. http://www.head-smashed-in.com/

The weekend before, we were up at Alix, a two hour drive northeast, a nice little village with a wonderful lake in the middle . . . . . Keeper makes like a crocodile while two ducks come in for a landing. The large building in the background is a grain elevator I believe:
