Travelling with cats

Hello,

I will be moving from Montreal to Calgary in the spring and want to know what are the things to think about for taking my cats with me. I will be flying and I know that cats are allowed to fly on air canada. I have heard that you can get tranquilizers for cats so that they don't freak out, is that a good idea? My cats are generally calm but they don't even like 20 minute car rides so I don't know how they will be for 4.5 hours. How should I feed and water them for that time? And do you know if those baggage compartments are really noisy?

hey i was wondering the same thing...though my kittens remain fairly calm while travelling...but i have to take them on a 18 hour train ride and i was wondering what to put in their kitty shuttle with them

When I travelled with my 2 cats by plane, I gave them each 1/2 tablet of children's gravol. I didn't give them any food prior to the ride. It is almost impossible to put water in their shuttle with them, cuz its pretty bumpy until they are settled in the cargo area, but give them plenty of water before you go. Also put in their favourite toy or something that is comforting to them. The cargo areas are a bit noisy on take off and landing but other than that they aren't too bad. My cats survived and they didn't hate me for too long after that ordeal!! Just be sure to give them plenty of love when you get to your new home!! They will need it!! Good luck!!:cool:
