If it could not get any worse for me, it did

As of May 31st, I will be a single mom with no job :(. They just laid off my little department. Everyone else is going on early retirement, so they have no worries. Just to say I am freaking out. Not only do I have a young toddler, I have a very accident prone rottweiler....I do not know what I am going to do. The job market really sucks around here. And what jobs are available nothing co insides with my daycare.

Freaking out

Don't you get a years unemployment? I know it's NOT 100% of your salary, but that will help a little bit.

I am still looking for sales reps......

Unfortunetly once again, hours do not permit daycare. As well as the drive is too far, aren't you at the south shore. my specialties are more in the office, data management, and quality checks... I have never worked retail.

NO, I don't work in retail nor do I work in the SouthShore.

To find something in your field, you need to start networking which can be very positive and fun.

Good luck..remember things happen for a reason.

Don't have a job to offer, but I wanted to give you my support. It isn't easy these days, especially for a single parent. :grouphug: There are cutbacks everywhere. Hubby's company just laid off all their temps because there's no work. My brother has been looking for a job for over a year - also on the west island (but I think he's being really picky).

Here are a few places to search for a job that I've used in the past:
http://www.jobbank.gc.ca/
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/about/cities.html
http://www.monster.ca/
http://ca.hotjobs.yahoo.com/
http://www.workopolis.com/
http://www.canjobs.com/
http://working.canada.com/index_map.html

Best of luck to you. :fingerscr

OMG! I'm so sorry rottielover. That really sucks. I wish I could offer more support!

Maybe since there are so many of us looking for jobs, we should all pm each other our resumes for some constructive criticism!

Maybe you could try giving your resume to some headhunters?
Not sure what your experience is, but I know there's a HUGE demand for legal secretaries...
Good luck , sending you lotsa positive vibes!!

Sorry rottielover!
No advice but as someone says everything happens for a reason. Take this time to reflect on what you would like to do.

I know sometimes it seems you get the short end of the stick but it will all work out.

I know its easy to say not to worry but maybe one day you will think this a blessing in disguise. Probably doesn't help.

Good luck and I am sorry you have to go through this.

Headhunters are a great idea. Cuts down on time looking for a job and they get you the interviews. Usually if you get someone who specializes in the companies and positions that interest you, it will be a lot more fruitful. I work in a compnay that has a recruiter department and we specialize in high tech IT positions. I recommend to get one that fits your needs otherwise they will leave you hanging for nothing.
