I went down to the basement to clean the litter boxes and found our 5 year old female lying in the box. I don't think she was really asleep and she looks perfectly healthy. We're thinking that maybe she was guarding the box from the other cats. Has anyone ever seen this behaviour before?

How many cats do you have and is one of them newcomer? My cat did that once when she first arrived to the house. Are you sure she is not sick.

We have several! We do have some kittens in the house, which seems to throw all of the older cats off. My males spray when ever there are kittens around, so maybe this is Paige's way of telling us she's ticked off.

I haven't taken her temperature, but she is eating, drinking, urinating, and defecating normally. Her behaviour is normal otherwise. It just seems odd as most animals go out of their way to avoid stepping in their feces, let alone sleeping in it!
