Taking Pixie to Internal Specialist

I'm a bit nervous.
I'm taking my little Westie to the internal specialist tomorrow.
She has a very large pot belly, around her chest close to arm pit she is 16 inches, tummy is 20 inches.
The blood work came back her alkaline phosphates readings were high but urine test showed no Cushing's.
Her tummy looks as if she has a big ball in there.
It's getting bigger so we have an appointment with a internal specialist tomorrow.
She does not act sick, she is full of life but with a tummy this big something has to be causing it.
I keep hoping they won't find anything, yet it's like if nothing shows up how do we know how to stop it from getting bigger.
So for those of you that say prayers can you say a prayer for my little Pixie that these vets. can find a way to help her?
Thanks

SeaLady…I am praying right now as we speak…I too had a Westie who had similar symptoms, but our outcome was not good.

She went into the doctor with an infection on her lips that they wanted to biopsy; however when they did her blood work they found very unusual blood counts and she was diagnosed with Lymphangiectasia which is a chronic protein-losing enteropathy. Her belly was swollen, she had diarrhea-but was looking well. Over the next few weeks of treatment, she got worse and then passed away at the Emerg Vet clinic. That was Feb 19th 2005.

Unfortunately, when you research Lymphangiectasia-it seems to be more common in Terrier breeds, especially the West Highland terriers.

Many, many Westies survive-just have to be on meds the rest of their lives…my Libby did not-she just wasn’t strong enough.

I hope your baby doesn’t have this terrible disease….my heart just broke when I read your post and it sounded so similar…please keep us posted…if you want to e-mail me directly my e-mail is Corrie@Xtranet.com
