15 year old lab having problems standing & walking

April 7th, 2006, 07:21 AM
Hi...I have a 15 year old black lab mixed. He has had some dental problems and is taking Metacam for pain.

Lately he is having problems walking and standing. His hind legs are not working as they should. It is particularily bad after he has been laying down. Also noticed that when he walks his back sides tend to turn to the right seen from behind. This causes him to walk sideways. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but gets real upset when he sits down or falls down. On a slipry surface he has to have help to get his hind end up. Any help will be appreciated.

Also other than this walking/standing problem he is in good health. It does have the dental problems but a burst of antibiotics once a month and the metacam daily seems to prevent the bad breath and chewing problem he had before. We took him to a vet who specialized in dental to finally get a cure. Regular vet didn't seem to help or didn't know what to do.

Again thanks

We really can't diagnose your dog over the internet. Please take him to the vet.
