Can you guess the movies?????

1. You know, put in a dollar, win a car. Put in another dollar, win another car...

2. I gave you my heart and you gave me a pen.

3. Excuse me while I whip this out.

4. Because, unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.

5. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.

"Here. It's your favorite."

"That's not my dog."

"We needed a coffin... uh.. a tree..."

ok, that's all I can think of right now. And they're pretty obvious...

I have a feeling I've never seen any of these!

Prin
April 2nd, 2006, 11:12 PM
Really? The first one is a romatic movie that was symbolic of religious exclusion... There was an unwed mother and a gypsy who came into a town (separately) of very religious people and shook things up...

The second is a classic. There was another movie made recently that was added to the series (even though the original actor can never be duplicated well).

The third, well... If you saw vegas vacation, I don't know how you didn't see this movie.

Skryker

"Here. It's your favorite."

"That's not my dog."

"We needed a coffin... uh.. a tree..."

First one, I have no idea. (looks like Badger got it!)

Second one, Pink Panther.

Third one, Christmas Vacation.

"I'm here to kick a** and chew bubble gum-and I'm all out of bubble gum!"

"Have fun storming the castle!"

First one I've heard in a video game Jim plays, isn't that Duke Nukem?

Second one, too easy! Princess Bride!

Badger, you have me stumped. Can you give some hints?

As for mine, here are some hints:

First one, yes, Vegas Vacation

Second one, 80s movie with a boombox and a bedroom window

Third one, Skryker if you got the fourth one, you should have gotten this one! It's another Mel Brooks classic!

Fourth one, yes Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Fifth one, yes When Harry Met Sally.

[Bobby wants plain toast, which isn't on the menu]
Bobby: I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.
Waitress: A #2, chicken salad sand. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?
Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.
Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?

Badger got the first one of mine right (btw, it was Johnny Depp).
Jesse's Mommy got the other ones...

Skryker, you never saw the Pink Panther scene where Clouseau asks the hotel desk clerk, "Does your dog bite?" and the guy answers, "No." So he goes to pet the dog and the dog is super vicious, and he says "I thought you said your dog doesn't bite!" and the guy replies, "That's not my dog.":D

Here's another few to try to guess. I think the first five were too easy!

1. "P O O K A - Pooka - from old Celtic mythology - a fairy spirit in animal form - always very large. The pooka appears here and there - to this one - and to that one - a benign but mischievous creature - very fond of rumpots, crackpots, and how are you, Mr. Wilson?" "How are you, Mr. Wilson?" Who in the encyclopedia wants to know?

2. I make $31,000 a year and I have a home and I'm not throwing it all away on some punk like you.

3. What was he wearing? Well, uh, let's see, he was wearing a red argyle sweater, and tan trousers, and red shoes... No, he's not retarded.

4. We have pictures of you so-called mooners. And just because the pictures aren't of your faces doesn't mean we can't identify you.

5. Thank you, sir! May I have another?

I know I've seen this movie. I can see this scene in my head perfectly, but I can't make out the actor in my head. I know from memory it's a well known actor, but I just can't picture who it is. You've got me good on this one!!!!

3. "I don't even have a piece of tin, so I have to envy yours."

Some of them were before my time too, but they are classics that everyone sees. For number two and three, think 80s Brat Pack. Number five is just a classic madhouse movie.

I'll give you another hint for my number two. Here is the most famous line from the movie and a dead giveaway:

Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. Yep! And then Duke Nukem stole Bruce Campbell's lines from Army of Darkness, like, Gimme some sugar, baby!

I was going to quote "Sleep well, my friend, and dream of large women." from Princess Bride but I thought that might be too obscure. Or, "Now, if we only had a wheelbarrow." I love that movie.

Oblique trivia hint number one: The line "That'll be the day" was later the inspiration for the famous Buddy Holly song of the same name.

Oblique trivia hint number two: A co-star of the person we are talking about in this movie was the original Captain of the starship Enterprise in the Star Trek pilot some years later.

Oblique trivia hint number three: John Ford directed a lot of these types of movies, many, including this one, considered the best of the genre.

The Searchers of 1956 with John Wayne is absolutely correct.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049730/

Natalie Wood was also in this one where Wayne played a racist anti-hero, a role many considered the best Wayne ever played with his signature line of "That'll be the day" to scoff at those who insisted he would give up his ten year search for the kidnapped young Debbie.

Jeffrey Archer, who played a mixed race native in this movie would, about a decade later, be the captain of the starship Enterprise in the original Star Trek pilot . . . . an episode later adapted into an Emmy winning Star Trek episode.

Hmmmm . . . . my mistake. Very close though to your quote. From the script of "Home Part 2" of Season 2, Battlestar Galactica:

Kobol - Trail

Helo: How much further?

Boomer: Farther.

Helo: What?

Boomer: Farther describes actual distance. Further is more figurative.

Helo: [Scoffs] You're a dictionary now?

Boomer: I'm sorry I'm smarter than you.
