Need Help With Getting Dogs On Treadmill

Does anyone have experience getting a dog on a treadmill? I would like to try and get Copper used to one, so that if we can't walk outside, we can at least do it inside! It will be for therapy for Copper, but I'm hoping to get Zoe on it too - as she needs all the exercise she can get to tucker her out!

All I can think of is to lure a dog onto the treadmill with treats and then give them lots of praise. Do this several times daily for a week or two and then start turning the treadmill on very slow and gradually increase the speed and length of time the dog stands on it. Does this sound about right??

Jesse is scared of the treadmill. When I'm on it, she thinks it's attacking me and she jumps back and forth at it and barks at it. She then jumps straight up and down, then back and forth, then runs around it and keep barking the whole time. I figured by the time I get done with it she has a pretty good workout herself. She, however, will not get on it, no matter what we do!

I think you have it about right Copper. Is there enough room for you to be on it too? Be careful though- some people have a hard time with treadmills and can pass out (their brains expect the landscape to be moving and when it doesn't they get dizzy and faint). I don't know if dogs can have the same trouble..

Tried Misty on my treadmill, she didn't comprend that she still had to walk. She just stood there and I barely caught her before she slid off. Please be careful when trying....Misty now just runs up and down the stairs and just stares at me. Tries to sniff it, but as she gets closer to it and the noise "hits" her, she takes off running again.
