Cottage Rentals?

Hubby and wee one and I are planning on renting a cottage during the summer months (what week we rent doesn't matter, we're flexible for vacation time), and in my internet search have found that many of the cottages are spitting distance from the neighbouring ones. We were hoping for a little bit more quiet and privacy, and were wondering if any of you had rented before, and have any recommendations, or places to avoid?

That's where we go for three weeks at least in the summer and it's great because our critters are very welcome to join us.
