He's an "---oodle", but which one??

Hi there!

Well, as I explained on the Intro forum, I'm very confused regarding our dog's actual make up. We were told that he's a Cockapoo, but after researching, I really think he's either a Schnoodle, Labradoodle, or Goldendoodle.
Here's some pics.

Thoughts??

Also - does anyone own any of the above? I'm interested in comparing notes about behaviors.

Thanks all!!

One More Picture of the mystery "oodle"...

He's really cute! Where did you get him! He's definitely a '...oodle', an oodle of joy! If he's part lab he may take 5 years to fully mature, you probably want an answer quicker than that though. Although if he's an older dog still acting like a pup then you may have your answer already. I don't see cocker in him though. Maybe schnauzer, he's small enough that lab or golden isn't really obvious either. I really suck at this game, hope someone more helpful comes along!

He really is adorable though and that may have to be good enough if you never find out exactly what he is.:pawprint:

I've seen that guy before ! Wasn't he "Tramp" on My Three Sons ?? ;)

He is definitely a Heinz 57 of some kind, very cute little guy!!! He does look like the dog on Mt 3 sons Joey's Mama, I had not recalled trhe name of that dog - tho we only ever saw reruns in black and white mostly, lol Did you get him at a rescue? If one of those Godforsaken backyard breeders of ddodles of varying varities sold him, she should have told you his background- if she knew it (These ppl make me so angry, charging huge prices for dogs that are not recognzied breeds by any registry). He has a similar colout to a fox terrier we had growing io but I think the similarty ends there. He seems part lab, maybe some terrier and even maybe some springer or spaniel but it's really hard to tell. Mayne - as he ages, it will be easier to acertain his heritage.

Congrats on a cute dog - a nice addition for ny family. I just hope he ended up with the best genetic background of his forebears, some positive DNA tho as you know, dogs can be taught to be "kind, intelliget and good with chilren and other people.

Enjoy him!!

What a cutie pie! How big is he, and how old? In the photo above, he seems a little small to be a Golden or Labrador mix(when I compare him to my neighbour's Lab/Poodle cross). Then again, when you're dealing with mixed breeds, anything is possible, so he may very well be one of those mixes. Also, because of the mix, there's really no point in comparing notes with regards to behaviour and such.

Rudy is about 2 years old (the adoption place assumed, anyway) and 30 lbs. I was thinking that maybe a lab or Golden would be too big as well compared to the pictures on the internet that I'm finding.

Honestly, it really doesn't matter to us what the heck he is, I was just really curious and I've heard that researching the breeds (i.e. - researching poodles and schnauzers for a schnoodle) would help me understand some of his behaviours in order to help with training.

Folks around the neighborhood call him "Benji" :)

Thanks for the input!

The dog on my 3 sons was named Tramp - he and Rudy do look alike. I think he's a cocker golden mix. Very cute.

Judging from those pics and his size, I would say poodle x schnauzer.

VERY cute!!!:)

I agree.

I don't see any "oodle" what so ever.

Anytime I have seen dog that has been an "oodle",it takes the coat of the poodle. And a friend of mine had a Schnoodle named Dallas, and again he had the poodle coat.

Here is a cockapoo.

I have to admit and thought this before but did not want to step on any toes but as a former poodle mommy for many many yrs, I see almost no "oodle" in him. His skin is not at all like a poodle's and with this whole trend tp labels crossbreeds ooldle this or that fr marketing reasons, I was afraid someone may have sold him mistakenly as a poodle mix. But he has almost no poodle features that I can see so I'd be cautious abour labelling him, esp with the word oodle anything. Just call him a cutie - wasn't Benji a terrier mix?

Thanks everyone!!
I relayed all of your compliments to Rudy! He is blushing :)

I really didn't see any "oodle" at first either, until my vet mentioned a Labradoodle or Schnoodle. When I researched these, the pics online look exactly like him....here's one of a schnoodle:

and Labradoodle....

Vet said "oodles" don't all have the "poodle-like" coat...

I have yet to see an "oodle" with a poodle coat. I don't see schnauzer - most schnauzers are dark in color and dark colors are a dominant gene, so I would expect the dog to be dark (like the picture of the black one you have posted). Since Standard Poodles are not near as common, breeding a lab or golden to one of the smaller poodles would make the dog smaller.

Judging from the fabulous feathers on your dogs tail and the lovely golden color, I would have to say goldendoodle. (Dog, do I hate the whole doodle thing!)

Since a lot of these doodle mixes come from pet shops, hence commercial breeders, and end up in shelters, it will be interesting to learn about your dog and his behaviours. Please keep us updated!

I could not agree more about the whole "oodle" thing - all I see are oodles are ooldes of cuteness, :) These ppl should just say they have cute doggies and leave it at that!! I guess I am thinking of this woman in my region who breeds her poddle with a lab and of course sells labradoodles for the bargain price of $1000 - and actually from what I see of prices in the US, hers is one of the cheaoer price!!!!! My poodle was a gift - and while I know poodles should never be given as a gift - esp to someone like I was at the time (a very ill teen in a body cast who could barely move much less care for a poodle but I had mega help!! And he was such a help to me - picture a teenager in a body cast in bed for 6 months barely able to move - that puppy was often my saviour. My friends came and went but he ever keft my side and forced me to play with him as well. He did much more for me than I ever did for me. (A friend of my grandparents raised poodles and therefore they gave me my cutie pie, a white toy poodle). He lived to be 17 - and I'll never forget him.

Thus, when I hear oodle anything,I think of the poodle fur and the unique personality of the poodle. These horrid breeders claim that their dogs have the best traits of both breeds but not even the world's best geneticist NEVER could claim that!!! Ever!! I do hope your doggie has some poodle traits tho - if not the fur - (actual poodles may not shed but you do have to take them to the goomer or learn to groom them yourself) and they need to be cleaned often but any dog needs a lot of care , just different I guess. Yours may show other poode traits like energeti, fun loving , loyal - tho poodles do like to bark on occasion. Mine was never a barker abd he would have been the worst guard dog in thw world - he invited everyone in, lol , wagged his tail at everyone, no matter who it was- but he'd never met any bad humans in his life so he was a lucky guy!

I do wish you luck with your oodles and oodles of cuteness!! :)

at only 30lbs, I would not say either golden or lab....Mayber coker. But with these dogs it is hard to tell, they all look so different

Again, thanks for all of the feedback everyone!
Good points.

Again CyberKitten, I don't care WHAT my pup is, we still love him bunches no matter what and nothing would change that. I'm just very curious, that's all.

There is no such thing as a "Schnoodle" since that is not a breed!;)

Lucky R - I didn't say it was a "breed", I realize that Rudy does not have a "breed classification", however - it's possible that his parents are schnauzer and poodle.

fyi folks - Rudy has a very big ego now due to all of your compliments! :)

Wow - you might be right about the Shih Tzu cross. Hmmmm...
think Rudy might be too big, though? He's about 30 lbs. You might be right, though!

One other thing I wanted to mention and see if anyone has any input on...Rudy CANNOT stand to be away from our side when we're home - however, he's fine in his crate when we're home or away. We've had him for about 6 weeks and can't get him to even go outside to use the bathroom without one of us being outside with him at least 5 ft. away or within his view. I've been trying to back up closer and closer to the deck / back door as he's doing his business hoping eventually to not have to go out at all with him - maybe just stand in the doorway (we have a secure fenced-in yard).
When we're home - it took us 4 weeks to get him to go into the kitchen by himself to eat his meals! If we were in the other room watching TV, he wouldn't leave us to go eat. He's getting a little better, but I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Following me around every inch of the house is cute and all, but get's a bit frustrating sometimes.

Thanks again!

I think your last question might get better attention down in the "Training" folder. Sounds like you have a cling-on! :) I think a lot of us can sympathise with that. My husband rolls his eyes because my dog is pracitcally glued to my hip. Want to know where in the house I am? Find which door Phoebe is lying in front of.

Oh, and I just wanted to show you. Below is a pic of my neighbour's Lab/Poodle cross playing with Phoebe. Compare that to the shot you had posted above. You see how different they can look from one another. Like all mixed breeds, the end result is a happy little mystery. :D

Looks like a terri poo to me. If you baby was more of a red colour it could pass for my Missie.
