smelly litter box

I have a huge problem. I have had my cat for about 3 years and i just adopted a friend for her. He is a 6 month old taby cat and he is adorable. The only problem is that his fecies smell up my whole apartment!! I've never smelled anything like it. My cat who i've had for 3 years never had a problem like this. Any suggestions? Is there something i can feed him so this doesn't happen?? Or special litter i can use? I have an electronic litter box, i thought this would help because it cleans the box everytime kitty goes to the bathroom, but it doesn't seem to help at all. What should i do??

Hi Chelsea,

Maybe the smell is from stuff he ate before you got him...

or maybe it's the transition...from the old food to the which case wait a few days.

I'd call the previous owner to see if the cat always had this problem.

But if you can't solve the problem in a short amount of time...bring the cat to a vet...there could be something wrong with his digestive or gastro-intestinal tract.

HI. I brought home a kitten that had the same problem. It had a weird smell kinda like a rusty smell. It smelt up my whole house. I found out it was the food I was feeding him. It was chief's blend. I guess there was something he was allergic to in it. I did not figure it out until my sister in law watched my cats at her home and feed them something different. As soon as he ate chief's blend again it smelt again. Now I have had him for over a year and he is just fine. If changing his food does not help, you may want to bring him to the vet. I think certain worms can make him smell to. Hope this helps. :)
