Boxer in pain

WE have a 6yr old Boxer bitch that in the last 3 weeks has started to cry out in pain, even while at rest.
She has had 3 torn ACL ops on her back legs and suffers from arthritic pain, but not so badly that she does not enjoy and looks forward to her morning walk.
A vet examination and Xray of the spine and front shoulders this past Friday showed no disc degeneration and no cancer. The vet suggested 15gm of Steroids and cut off her Metacam. This has not helped.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

The only thought I have is spondylosis, perhaps - this is a type of arthritis in the spine, and sometimes a small bone spur will pinch a nerve which can be extremely painful. You may want to ask your vet if this is a possibility. It may be something very easy to miss with an exam & xray.

Years ago I came home to find my eight year old Rottweiler unable to stand up without crying out...I was terrified for him! I took him straight to my vet who decided it was a pinched nerve in the lower spine. He gave him a prednisone shot right into the site. We had to carry the dog into the vet, and he walked out 30 minutes later, apparently pain free.

The vet said it may be a temporary cure, but the problem never recurred and the dog lived almost two years longer before passing away from osteo. :(
