Question About Spaying

February 13th, 2006, 07:36 PM
My dog is getting spayed in the mornin and I was wondering if she'll have to stay overnight or not.

You have already received all the details regarding the procedure and stay. Very few dogs stay over night anymore unless it is a difficult surgery or there are complications.

One thing that I would suggest you do are the blood tests prior to the surgery. Make sure that your pup has the all clear of anything that could affect the outcome. I have had two students recently that have had problems with their blood work so surgery had to be postponed by a couple weeks. One had low iron and the other had elevated liver enzymes.

Laci is going in on Thursday to get spayed and she will be staying overnight and I will pick her up Friday afternoon. I guess it depends on the doctors.

Most vets try to get this surgery done in the morning so they are usually ready for home by afternoon.

I've always picked up girlies the next morning and the boys either in the afternoon or evening the same day.

When my dog got spayed she went in at 8:30 AM,
and I picked her up at 4:00 PM the same day.
I dont think they usually keep any spayed or neutered
animals overnight unless their is problems.
Stacey - interesting to suggest bloodwork- my vet never
said anything about having blood tests done prior to
a spay.
