Siamese Kitties!

 Hi everyone! Haven't been here in a bit. I have been enjoying the company of our newest addition. We have adopted a Seal Point Siamese named Ismaelle. She is 9. We are so lucky to have her, she has a great personality and temperament!
It's funny, a lot of people thought it was crazy to get a Siamese cat because they think they are crazy, vicious cats! As if, I've never met another Siamese cat to behave this way. Ismaelle is great, she snuggles with me on the couch as soon as I sit or lie down, she follows me everywhere and is very loveable.
Has anybody ever had a bad experience with a Siamese cat? I believe it is all in how you raise them. If you are a loveable person and love animals your pet will be the same way, no?

I've never owned one,but a friend of mine has three,19,15 and 3yrs old.
The only one who is not friendly,at least with strangers, is Kaduc the 15 yr old male.

I haven't owned a Siamese, but fostered two of them (mom and kitten) and fell in love with the breed!

Mine were: Affectionate, smart, loving and of course - absolutely beautiful!!

Here are my two fosters. I WISH I could have kept them!!

I have one meezer now and know them intimately (have fostered ,, cared for, raised, showed and owned many meezers). Vicious is not a word ever used to describe this wonderful adorable and exceedinly friendly breed. Read more about them - there is much online - join a Siamese club or rescue and you will know how delightful these kitties are.

I have heard those who know nothing about the breed describe meezers as high energy and they can be but mostly, they are distingished by their high intelligence, love of their people and friendly demenor. And they love to play, learn very quickly and like attention. Oh and many of them like to talk to you - you will know their vocaulary before long - they insist on it. There is an old saying among us meezer ppl - a Siamese will not be denied and my little girl has that one down pat, lol.

Congrats on your new additon.

The can get into trouble (ie exploring, climbing) if you leave them alone so give her lots of love and attention and care!!

btw Lucky, I see you have a Blue point on your site- she has to be adopted with her sister tho right? Can you PM me about her or has she found a home?

I had a siamese as a teen and she was a beautiful cat very loving. She was more my cat than anyone elses and yep if she wanted something she let you know they are very vocal. I have heard of one woman who said a siamese turned on her because of something outside, but I think it could have been any breed to do that not just because it was a Siamese. I just love their blue eyes.

Sorry to hijack the thead, but Cyberkitten, your PM box is full!

These two cats - Siamese and Oriental Shorthair - are with the lady in Lancaster who rescues and who has 65(!!) animals.

She says the cats must go together and that one of them doesn't like other cats and will pee outside the box. This may be due to the huge number of animals there. I really don't know since it's impossible to say how she would react if only a few cats were present.

Thx Lucky, I'll email you - as you know I still have the syhynx girls and not sure two newbies would add to the mix. Let me think on it - these cats have all kinds of raesons (on your site I mean) to be stressed. And sorry about my box - I tend to forget it, sigh!! I'll check it now and dekete some stuff.

Sorry momto2, for hijacking!! Here is a pict of my baby - I hope you'll share some of yours! :)

Thanks for all the info. Cyberkitten, your meezer is beautiful! I have just finished my roll of film and will develop tomorrow. Hopefully by tomorrow night I will have posted pics.
I agree that any animal being "vicious" can happen with any breed too. My Ismaelle is now showing who is boss with my male! She was playing at the scratch post and he swatted her, now she growls if he even looks at her! We have had many laughs in the last week! Can't wait til' they get along, my female, Simba, seems to be starting to warm up to her, she comes a little closer now. I love watching them.
By the way, I give credit to all who foster animals. I couldn't do it, I would end up with a housefull of animals! lol:thumbs up

Question, and another hijack (sorry)--do meezers tend to have more longevity than other breeds? It seems like I hear about 17, 18, 19+ year old Siamese cats all the time.

I am not certain that meezers have greater percentage of longenvity but I rather think that because they are purebred cats who tend to be purchased by people who love the breed and often keep them inside and care for them more so but that is just a subjective observation. It is sort of thought that moggies - who are not exposed to any inbreeeding (I mean most Siamese are not either but with the best breeding programs, one can trace the geneology of one's meezer and if you go back many generations, there may be some relationships, sort of us like us humans - 6 degrees of seperation and all that) - tend to live long lives if well cared for. Even ferals can live till 20. My grand mother had a feral who lived outside (except for the winter when she wandered in tho she did not travel far from home and was spayed) lived to be 23! The longest living meezer is said to be an unnamed blind Blue-Point Siamese owned by Howard Little of Redwood City, California - recorded as being 25 years and 8 months in November 1975.

Some cats even live into their 30's. The Messy Beast notes that one of the oldest was a Syphnx- - makes me wonder about my Sphynx Girls, lol They note:"Granpa Rexs Allen, a Sphynx adopted from a Texas Humane Society, reached 34 years, 2 months and 4 hours old in 1998 (pedigree cats have the advantage of detailed birth records). He was adopted from the Humane Society of Travis County, Texas by Jake Perry on January 16, 1970. Granpa had been found as a stray in danger of being run over. Realising that Granpa was a Sphynx (then a rare breed), Perry put up posters in case anyone had any information about him. He received a call from the cat's former owner, Mme Sulinaberg from Paris, France. Sulinaberg had been visiting her daughter in December 1969 and her cat, Pierre, had escaped through an unlocked screen door. Sulinaberg checked the cat and agreed to let Perry keep the cat. She gave him Pierre's pedigree papers although by that time Perry had registered the cat as Granpa Rexs Allen with TICA as a household pet. The pedigree papers stated that Pierre had been born in Paris, France on the morning of 1st February, 1964. His sire was a Devon Rex (a permitted outcross for the Sphynx breed) called Pierre II and his mother was a Sphynx called Queen of France. Like Ma, Granpa was a cosseted cat, but his diet included bacon and eggs, broccoli, asparagus, mayonnaise and coffee with lots of cream!"

They definitely do live long lives if well cared for!

I've had a few cats who have lived to be 17,18 and 19yrs,like CK says,if you are lucky and they don't get sick, lots of love and care is the best thing to assure they'll live long happy life,no matter the breed.

I have heard rumours about Siamese cats being vicious...is it because of the Lady and the Tramp movie:p ? I think its a pretty common rumour but doesn't really hold any truth.

Anyway, none of my Siamese cats have ever been like that. They are certainly demanding so perhaps some people find that intimidating.

I know my entire family thought they were vicious - based on a few nasty encounters, mostly from when they lived in England (but most cats in England roam free and are much more "wild")...

My current Siamese is a blue-point (a first for me as I have always had Chocolate Points). Here's my little Minnow:

Cyberkitten, my Iggy looks a lot like your cat! He's got the tabby markings on his legs and tail, but spots on his hindquarters too.

He's often referred to as Sh**head because he's so mischeivious! He used to torment our older cat even though she's twice his size, always wanting to play and wrestle when all she wanted to do was look out of the window. Now he's *just* starting to slow down and settle a bit (even though the other one refuses to nap with him!).

He's super affectionate and loooves sitting on your lap or chest for hours of snuggling and diesel engine purring. He's managed to fall from our second floor to the landing below the first floor twice, all before the age of 9 weeks old.

Just 2 days ago, he decided he needed to be King of the Castle in our basement where we've got boxes and stuff piled to the ceiling. We didn't see him achieve this feat, but we did come home to the avalanche he created when everything toppled over.

Here he is, after a few shots of NyQuil (joking, of course!), and sharp edges neatly tucked away!

Lissa, is your bluepoint ever beautiful! What a nice color. I think in a couple of years I will get a kitten, keep the older ones on their toes!:D The chocolate point is just as beautiful. It will be so hard to pick, I love them all.
All this information is great. I will join a Siamese group as well.

Thanks!
