Stacer February 12th, 2006, 07:22 PM I think my neutered boy Angus tried humping my spayed girl Finn. I was laying with Finn, purring away quite relaxed when Angus jumped up for some lovin' too. He straddled her (she was laying on her side) and started to lick her head and ear (which isn't uncommon), but then his backside started gyrating. Is this normal cat behaviour? I've never heard of neutered males humping. Finn wasn't amused and promptly squirmed away. Has anyone else experienced this sort of behaviour from their cats?
cpietra16 February 12th, 2006, 07:36 PM I had 5 cats and they were all fixed. 3 girls and 2 boys. Anyway, the 2 boys kept humping each other and I can tell you it had nothing to do with reproduction of their species....it was a dominance issue. They would never hump the girls just each other. My feral was the worst he would bite samson on the neck and start humping. Now my dog who is also fixed tries to hump my cat...again dominance. I really think it does happen even when they're neutered or spayed, in my doggies case
Stacer February 12th, 2006, 09:36 PM that makes sense, he seems to always be doing subtle things to show dominance, not burying his poop,etc..., he was definitely being a little less subtle tonight!
Lucky Rescue February 12th, 2006, 09:58 PM I've had many neutered toms who would hump, and not just other cats, but blankets, pillows etc.:p
At the moment I have a 4 year old neutered boy, and he'll hump girls or boys - whoever will hold still long enough. He just doesn't care where he gets his fun!:D
jesse's mommy February 12th, 2006, 10:07 PM He just doesn't care where he gets his fun!:D
ROFLMFAO!!
Stacer February 12th, 2006, 10:25 PM This is so enlightening, I have had 3 different male cats throughout my life and have never witnessed this before and you are all telling me your cats do it all the time. So strange, I always attributed this behaviour to dogs. Man, this is just too funny.
Lucky Rescue February 12th, 2006, 10:33 PM Here is my big tommy making a punk of my former MALE foster kitty, Jerry Lee, who had no clue about what was going on.:D
I find it very funny.

Stacer February 12th, 2006, 10:51 PM :D OMG Lucky, that is too funny. Even funnier is that the cat in your pic that is receiving looks very eerily like Finn, our Receiver tonight. Here they are: Angus the Giver on the right and Finn the Receiver on the left.
Lucky Rescue February 13th, 2006, 10:44 AM Boys!!:p I love Angus' expression!
My cat is very lonely (and horny) without his little squeezebox, since Jerry got adopted.
All that's left here is my cat's mom, and even HE wouldn't dare go there!
chico2 February 13th, 2006, 01:23 PM I have three neutered males, around 2pm every day,Chico gets the crazies, runs around the house wiggling his little butt enticing Rocky.
Rocky is up to the task right away:D
Not before he start chomping on Chico's neck, does Chico start calling for help..MOOOM,he's hurting me!!
I split them up and 2 seconds later they'll be right at it again,my 3 boys have never met a female,so maybe they think it's the norm:confused:
Stacer February 13th, 2006, 06:20 PM I'll definitely be keeping a closer eye, maybe I can get some video footage, there is probably a very untapped opportunity here for some people who want to make some money. lol
tellmekitty February 13th, 2006, 06:55 PM Hi,,yes have seen this in cats and dogs,,,and actually had two male hamster who would engage in this "playfull" ? activity. I think it okay as long as it stays friendly with no fighting, and I must say also that Dolphins in the wild and also some of Apes/Chimps also engage in this. Tellmekitty
Snooky'sMom February 13th, 2006, 07:20 PM I had just my two cats for many years. A neutered male Himalayan and a spayed female calico. Every day (I'm serious) EVERY day, he would get on top and do his thing. He lived to 19 yrs.
Sneaky February 14th, 2006, 04:50 PM Tellmekitty,
actually almost all apes/monkeys engage in
sex for fun.
Bonobos (pan pygmaeus), the dwarf chimp
engage in an average 45 counts
of sexual events each day - making them the
most active of all great apes.
A neutered male cat can continue to perform
for his whole life, though many wont.
jesse's mommy February 14th, 2006, 04:52 PM Shooting Blanks...
Stacer February 14th, 2006, 10:14 PM I've heard that about Apes.
Lucky Rescue February 14th, 2006, 10:39 PM Bonobos (pan pygmaeus), the dwarf chimp
engage in an average 45 counts of sexual events each day
Yes, and unlike other primate troops, they have almost NO violence or conflict among themselves.
Kinda make ya think.:p
mom_to_many February 21st, 2006, 06:43 PM I have 6 cats, 5 neutered males, 1 spayed female. I have one male who loves to hump his "blankie". And the female...well when she gets mad, will just squat and pee where she is. Has anyone tried the plug in phermones (spelling?) With all these cats, there can be alot of tension in their world especially in the winter. Help!!!
CyberKitten February 21st, 2006, 07:33 PM As I have said before, my neutered bunny used to try to hump the dog ( a beagle), my socks, blankets, (the cat was smart and too quick for him, lol). Finally, I bought him a Beanie Buddy- Nibbles - http://i18.ebayimg.com/01/i/06/19/6e/c4_1_b.JPG about the same size as him and he was a happy camper.
This is not at all unusual.
Stacer March 15th, 2006, 10:27 PM Has anyone tried the plug in phermones (spelling?) With all these cats, there can be alot of tension in their world especially in the winter. Help!!!
I bought Feliway (plug in pheremone) from the vet after our boy was peeing on our bed, the vet thought maybe he was stressed since there was no physical reason why he should be peeing, it seemed to work (combined with having him neutered), but way too expensive to continue to buy the refills, and hard to find at most pet stores. I think the only store that sells it is Petsmart, most vets carry it but charge double the price for it. Both cats seemed to hang out more in the room with the plug in pheremone, so I think they liked it. Maybe it could help with humping too, if it's stress related humping. By the sound of it, most of these kitties just wanna get off! The plug in pheremones might enhance the mood.
LibbyP March 19th, 2006, 12:09 AM All I have to say is thank goodness that I don't have the only humping cat out there LOL. We have two dogs 65lbs and 124lbs and a siamese f/s 7yrs this past Nov I fostered a male siamese 12wks old, he would jump up on the sofa to clean his bellylegs and his little pinky would be hanging out (I must say this is the first time I had ever seen that from a cat and I have cats all my life), he would then jump down and mount my f/s grabbing her by the back of the neck as expected she would get pissy and hiss/spit/growl and run away then acouple days of that going on he then moved onto my 65lbs dog. I had him neutered in Jan and he's still doing it, not so much to my dog as to f/s and she has gotten to the point where she cannot stand him always jumping on her, I thought it had to do with me waiting to have him neutered as with past boys I had them done at 12wks(not so easy this time to find a vet who would do early s/n). I haven't had a kitten in 16yrs wow are they crazy:D
Prin March 19th, 2006, 12:11 AM Here is my big tommy making a punk of my former MALE foster kitty, Jerry Lee, who had no clue about what was going on.:D
I find it very funny."I can't quit you, Jerry!" :D It was bound to come out at some point in the conversation, no?
badger March 19th, 2006, 08:31 AM Badger has a big old wool sweater he romances. Sometimes he gets so excited he falls off the bed. He doesn't try it on the other cats. Good thing, he'd probably squash them.
Lucky Rescue March 19th, 2006, 10:54 AM Good thing, he'd probably squash them.
What about 26lb Charlie here, who is just a loooove machine? The objects of his affections (male, female - he doesn't care!) are powerless and I'm sure they feel very violated.:p
Writing4Fun March 19th, 2006, 11:05 AM Well, this is a new (and somewhat disturbing) side of cats I've never known. http://www.discodelic.netfirms.com/scared-nervoustwitch1.GIF
Lucky Rescue March 19th, 2006, 12:42 PM Maybe this could spawn a new trash/sensationalistic TLC show:
"Cats: The Dark Side!" or maybe
"Cats: Sexual Predators or Just Happy Humpers?"
:D
chico2 March 19th, 2006, 12:52 PM W4F,awww it's nothing disturbing,with Rocky and Chico,they"fool"around the same time every day:D
It's not like they actually"do"it,we robbed them of their jewels and if they enjoy a little pretend mating that's ok with me,as long as nobody gets hurt.
Lucky,that is a beautiful cat,is he in a shelter?
Lucky Rescue March 19th, 2006, 01:25 PM that is a beautiful cat,is he in a shelter?
No. He and his sister (nearly as big as he at 18 lbs) were found jammed into a taped up cardboard box in a park about 1 1/2 years ago.
They were taken to a vet, and had approximately one hour until they would be killed.
Debbie raced out and brought the terrified cats home, and they've been there ever since and are spoiled rotten! Adoption attempts failed, since people only wanted Maine Coon Charlie and not his plain, shy grey sis.
chico2 March 19th, 2006, 04:33 PM Lucky I think I remember those two,Debbie must be a wonderful person:love:
scuba0095 March 22nd, 2006, 07:59 PM i think just like people some cats have a sextual perferance for the same sex i use to have have a male cat that would ingore females and go insane with interest whenever he saw a male cat. It does cause violence though because the cat who is getting humped usually doesnt like it and will turn around and fight
Lucky Rescue March 24th, 2006, 05:55 PM i think just like people some cats have a sextual perferance for the same sex
For my guy, he just follows the path of least resistance.:p My female foster put the smackdown on him when he tried with her, but poor Jerry had no idea what was being done to him, so allowed it!
Writing4Fun March 24th, 2006, 07:23 PM For my guy, he just follows the path of least resistance.:p Ugh! Typical male! :p Seriously, this thread is getting a little too XXX-rated. As I read it, I hear that bad '70s "wanh-wanka-wanh-wanh" music playing in my head.
Mishkamax March 25th, 2006, 04:33 AM Honestly I've laughed my socks off here (and I need it after losing Max). My persian tabby Boris and his sister Azzie (both now gone to the bridge) were at it all the time, even after I explained to him that he'd had the snip, and also that it was incestuous. It wasn't so much the humping it was the noise that those two made while they were 'AT IT'.
Thanks for the laughs, I really enjoy this site.

kirabee May 25th, 2007, 03:56 PM i have a cat, toby who is 5 years old. i also have a girl, ponette who is 6 and a kitten who is about 5.5 months. recently, within the past 2 weeks or so, toby has been mounting howie, the kitten. before, he would just hover over him and bite his neck... howie would just stay very still... then last week toby started doing this more and now he is humping the air behind howie.... howie cries and cries adn is much smaller than toby so can't really get away... and i have to uusaully go separate them.
will this continue once howie is neutered too? or is it a complete dominance thing? how do i make it stop?
chico2 May 25th, 2007, 04:04 PM Kirabee, this is an old post, what Toby is doing is perfectly normal,I have 3 neutered males and they all do it,to each other or whatever is handy.
However, your Toby should not be doing to a little kitten who cannot defend himself, other than breaking it up,there is not much you can do.
I believe neutering only makes the cats sterile, the"funny"feelings are still there, just keep the little guy safe,ok:cat:
LittleMissLevi May 25th, 2007, 11:44 PM I agree with Chico. My 1 1/2 old neutered male cat humps this one blanket (my favourite blanket) when he is really happy. I don't like it and have tried to make it stop. Frankly I have no idea how you do it because I have tried everything and the only thing that works is hiding the blanket.
chico2 May 26th, 2007, 05:38 AM I really don't think it's anything you should try to stop,unless it's done to a kitten,too small to get away.
Seeing the cat enjoys it and is in La-La land for a while, what's the big deal:confused:
My Rocky(male) has Chico(male) as his object of affection,Chico even seems to entice him,but when Rocky means business,Chico is very capable of cooling him off:laughing:
CyberKitten May 26th, 2007, 12:39 PM I know this is an old post but a new additional question and I just wanted to add (maybe I did before, I did not check every response, lol) that while I have never experienced this with cats, my ,ale neutered bunny used to look for items to hump, including my beagle puppy - and so I bought him a Beanie Buddy almost his size, a rabbit and he loved that thing, lol pet stores actually sell furry items for pets to do this with, lol He was fine once he had his toy and I had trained him to play nicely with the beagle/ Even when the beagle became much larger than him the bunny remained the alpha pet in the home - my cat at the time was a rescued kitten who was my fraidy cat. She would run and hide when new people came in the door. But she would come out and want to be in my lap when they were gone. Those three were quite the characters. <g>
Maya May 26th, 2007, 01:20 PM Seeing the cat enjoys it and is in La-La land for a while, what's the big deal:confused: I know I don't understand why so many people are bothered by this it doesn't make sense. As long as its not bothering the object of effection too much I think its rather cute.:p :o
[edit]Kirabee i'd just keep breaking it up till your kitten is big enough to defend himself. I don't think it is a dominance thing with cats. One of my two boys the more lovey smaller one just liked to get frisky.:goodvibes:
oody and kitten May 2nd, 2008, 03:07 PM Yeah, got that problem too! Neutered 4 year old male named Kitten. It started when we moved out of our tiny apartment in NYC to a big new house in Texas. I'd sit on the couch with a blanket-don't want Kitten to scratch the new leather! Anyway, a few month ago he started with the innocent kneading. And I didn't mind. Then he started shaking. At first I thought there was something wrong. When I turned him over, his little you know what was sticking out! I'd tell him I'm his mommy not his girlfriend! My husband thinks it's gross. I kick him off and then he finishes with a good lick. Now my other male cat Oody humps Kitten who humps me. I understand dominance, but why would Kitten hump ME? What on earth is going on? Is it in the Texas water?!
chico2 May 2nd, 2008, 03:42 PM OOdy,please do not get angry at your cats for doing this, and your hubby should not think it's gross, because it is not.
It's a feel-good thing for your cats, nothing to get angry about,or try to stop.just leave them be.
If you are bothered with him on your lap, just put him down together with the blanky..
sugarcatmom May 2nd, 2008, 05:02 PM I agree with Chico2, there's nothing wrong with what your cat is doing. Just because he doesn't have testes anymore doesn't mean he can't feel frisky and enjoy life. Look at it as a sign that he's happy and healthy instead of something perverted.
krdahmer May 3rd, 2008, 12:48 AM Two of my boys do this on a regular basis.... my vet explained it to me as they are just comfortable and excited, nothing sexual about it. I call it the friskies and it doesn't gross me out anymore. The only time I discourage it is if they are trying to do this to one of the other cats... as often the other cat is not in the same 'mood'.
ninothebeano July 30th, 2008, 08:13 PM I have a cat that has been neutered for about 3 days now. He still wants to hump his sister. He doesn't do this with his brothers because the boys seem to fight when they are together. :cat:
I thought that when cats were neutered, they lost their desire for sex, but I guess that is not true.
hazelrunpack July 30th, 2008, 08:36 PM In dogs at least, it takes a long time for testosterone to be cleared out of the body, so at three days post-neuter, your cat's testosterone levels are probably still pretty high.
And I don't know how it is with cats, but all our spayed and neutered dogs still hump each other to show dominance...so for us the humping never really ended. Doesn't have much to do with sex, though. :D
momsloopy July 30th, 2008, 08:51 PM I used to have a spayed Lab and she used to hump male dogs:shrug: I thought that was really werid
angelzrealm June 4th, 2009, 09:10 AM Last year, we adopted a female russian blue kitten.
Well, we already had a two year old male, neutered persian cat. At the time, I decided to purchase a stuffed animal 'cat'. The one that they sell in the pet stores that has the heat pack and the simulated heartbeat. I put our scent on it and it was suppose to be for separation anxiety. When the female was 6 months old, we had her spayed, so she would never go into heat. The male cat has been neutered ever since he was 6 months old aswell.
But ever since we got that stuffed cat for 'separation anxiety', our neutered male kitty has been having fun with his 'toy' ever since. I had originally put the video on to the Marvin Gaye song- 'Lets get it on'.

Whiskers86 January 21st, 2010, 11:49 PM I'm sorry for reviving this old thread but I'm a little bit perplexed with my kitten right now for this exact reason.
"Peanut" the offending kitten is eight months old and he was neutered TODAY. He's been back at home for less than four hours and he's already trying to hump the couch pillows, the blanket I'M using and our female cat, Abby, who although understands the need to be nice to the doped up and obviously sore kitten, isn't impressed.
I've read this thread and get that even neutered male cats hump things, but the same day after he's had surgery? I got an AMAZING deal on the neutering from a vet, against the advice of a girl at work who said that cheaper vets usually aren't as reliable...
Should I be worried about my cat or is he just "getting right back in the saddle" so to speak?
rainbow January 22nd, 2010, 03:59 AM First of all welcome to pets.ca :highfive: and I hope you decide to check out the rest of the forum. We'd also love to see pics of Peanut and Abby. :thumbs up
I wouldn't be worried as it will take awhile before his testosterone levels start to drop. In some cats it can take 4 to 6 weeks before they do.
He may still even try to hump periodically after that. :)
