My friend's cat has been getting mats in her fur. They've have been brushing & cutting them out. Now the cat's chest is one big mat. Any ideas about what else to do to stop the fur from getting matted and/or to get rid of the matts.

the cat not cleaning itself?? if it is, why is it getting so matted to start with? I had a friend who had that problem and it was because the cat wasnt cleaning itself. maybe it should see a vet?

Beautygirl, your friend, unless she is able to cut the matted fur out,has to take the cat to a groomer,or maybe the vet can do it.
A big clump of matted fur can cause a lot of problems with her skin and can also be very painful.
A longhaired cat,IMO needs to be brushed every day to keep her fur from matting, even if she cleans herself.
