I couldn't post this in the foster thread, so I'm posting it here...

Here are the two baby fosters assuming the position that every dog gets into in this house...

Oh wow - how adorable! You're a brave lady to foster TWO puppies!!:thumbs up

Prin
January 31st, 2006, 11:09 PM
Jemma is very reserved and I caught Boo growling at them... I'm trying to show them that they are puppies- my dogs have been harrassed by older, small fluffy black dogs before, so they have a reason to be apprehensive. Usually dogs sense that they are puppies, no? My dogs don't anyway.

So far they have come out for a walkabout but now they're back in their crate... Too tired for now I guess... I hope I can handle it... So far it doesn't seem like I can handle puppies and homework at the same time (the puppies win every time...)

Boo reluctantly with Doo...

I'm so lucky to have such cute, loveable fosters. They're so lucky because they already have a good home to go to after us.:)

Prin
January 31st, 2006, 11:25 PM
  They're lying to me! They say they're too afraid to come out and they're all quiet, so I went to check up on them and their crate is full of toys!!!:D

I went to check up on them and their crate is full of toys!!!

Joey says those are my kind of doggies. You can never have enough toys in your bed.

LOL Three Joey's in a pod... or is it a pouch? heh heh :o

They're newf puppies, maybe mixed, but there's definitely newf in there.

I just love them. I soooooo have to get another one. I keep trying with Jim, but he won't give in! I tell him that Jesse would have someone else to bug instead of sitting on top of us all the time and that one doesn't work! I'm trying. Eventually I'll get my way!!

are they both going to the same home? That would be wonderful!
They definately look newf, but the face almost looks like BC, no ?

Oh wow - how adorable! You're a brave lady to foster TWO puppies!!:thumbs up
lol LR, I kept looking at Prin's Man to make sure he wasn't just humouring us but when he picked them up and one got a kiss, I knew he was hooked. It's great for them to get the additional socialisation and become accustomed to large dogs. Here's just too busy for them to come out of their shell quickly. Doolin and Kerry are very lucky to get a foster family to just fuss over them. Their new parents can't wait for them to be ready to go home and yes, they get to remain together.:thumbs up

They definately are a mix.And I'm with happcats,I too see BC.

I tried to scan a pic of my sisters BC Abby when she was a pup(all fuffed up)but the scanner is not co operating with me this morning...

Don't want to be a pain, but do the new owners know how extremely challenging and difficult it is to raise siblings?

They are extremely dog experienced and Daddy is like a little kid waiting for his friends to arrive. He didn't listen to any of our conversation the other night so Mommy called back to get it all straight and she was laughing as he was just too darned excited and I knew it. I kept repeating things and could tell they weren't sinking in. :D Thank heavens Mommy is far more sensible. :thumbs up

oh yeah...I can see it now. Your bf really IS allergic to dogs;) I think he just doesn't like cats cos obviously he's overcome his dog allergicness...(i don't know if that's a word) :p

but omg they're so cute! So fluffy! and i LOVE that pic of Boo and Doo(great name lol).

he's thinking "nope! not talking to someone cuter than me! how dare he be CUTER??" lol

I think we need more pictures :D

Prin
February 1st, 2006, 10:31 PM
Last one for now, I promise... It's the cutest one yet. They can literally stay on the sofa for hours without moving. My babysitter!

BMD, you can tell the dad that Kerry is more independent (so far), more curious and is the ultimate newspaper shredder. She's also a pretty alert guard doggy.

Doolin is the quiet lover. He needs so much lovin' and attention but he won't ask for it until you stop. He's peaceful and more chilled out, but he understands the purpose of toys better than Kerry.

Both of them know not to bite fingers already, it's awesome. They also wag their tails so hard that they knock on the floor and make Jemma and Boo bark...

Very cute. I wonder what they'll be like after 13 more days...

They're getting a little too confident, IMO. They think they own the place now (till Jemma and Boo make a noise and then they run back into the crate).

Be careful about asking me for more pics... I still have them another 12 days.:D

They are very cute and look so relaxed compared to the picture in the rescue forum. I'd love to see more pics too - there's no such thing as overload when it comes to pictures!

Not sure if this was exlpained somewhere else but why do they need to be in foster if the family they are going to want them both now and are very dog experienced!??

They can't go until sterilised and they have been in care for over two weeks to ensure not having been exposed to parvo previous to our care.

Prin
February 2nd, 2006, 10:28 PM
They also can't go until I say so. Right? Right?! heh heh...:o :D

No it would really suck to get your dream dog from a shelter only to have it die shortly after you've gotten attached to it. I mean, Kerry lets out one little cough and we're running to her. I couldn't imagine if it was worse.

Here's Kerry on the Boo futon... She's smaller than Doolin, but Doo can't get up there...:D He tries and tries though. He's a mini-human- he tries to pull himself up with his arms instead of jumping with his back legs.

Prin

Prin
February 2nd, 2006, 10:41 PM
LOL They really are. Right now in the bedroom, there's Frank, Jemma, Kerry and Doolin. Boo and I are all alone... He's just happy they're not bugging him.

This evening, Jemma had a one-way dialog with the babies. She grumbled, howled and chewbaccaed at them for about 20 minutes. Sort of a "So? What? What are you doing here anyway? Why are you in my spot under the coffee table?" I filmed the last few minutes of it. Boo does it too sometimes. He just stands there with a sort of indifferent look on his face and grumbles things. If only us stupid humans understood dog.:D

lol, np... some rescues do it, some don't. I just have had enough of the spca being full of unaltered animals so figure if we do something in rescue maybe eventually it will have a ripple effect?

a friday can't be a TGIF without new fluffy puppy pictures :D

Prin
February 3rd, 2006, 04:46 PM
LOL The last one was so early this morning. Doesn't that count?!

The puppies actually let me sleep in this morning. They're doing so well. Only one cough all day. :highfive: Kerry ventured outside "on her own" (i.e. with a long leash on without her realizing). She went out about 2 feet alone before running back in. Brave little girly.

We had a change in the feeding dynamic though. They used to eat together but now Kerry waits till Doolin is finished. She coughed yesterday while they were eating and he misunderstood and thought she was growling at him and got all offended. :) But they're still ok.

They don't stick like glue to each other anymore. Right now, Kerry is asleep in the bedroom beside the crate and Doolin is in the living room beside his pile of toys (he's a hoarder).

I'll take more pics later when my batteries are charged... lol

I seriously can't get enough of them!

Prin
February 5th, 2006, 12:41 AM
Ok tomorrow morning, or afternoon, depending on how tired these babies are after today, I'm gonna post some outside pics. They played outside today! Yey! Walking 4 dogs- well, walking 3 dogs and carrying the last- was a job and a half. Kerry is amazing on the leash. She's a daredevil. She walked all the way to the river and back on her own. Just amazing. These guys barely came out of their crate 4 days ago. Doolin wouldn't though. He just got really scared. He would be terrified and then have a boost of confidence for a couple of minutes then be terrified again. My arms were shaking from the fatigue of holding him for so long.

I don't know if this is arrogant, but I hope it isn't us that is helping them. I hope when they go to their new home that they continue to open up.

Today, my dad came over and he said, "My gosh, they're so social!" which was crazy because he didn't even know their history. It wasn't a comparative observation. :thumbs up Yey furrybabies!

Prin, you ARE helping them and that's the point of fostering them. You'll see that their new family will be so thankfull to you for taking such good care of the puppies. And don't worry mommy, they will continue to open up,to a point that you will think;I've created monsters!

Prin
February 5th, 2006, 12:32 PM

awww cuteness.
That looks like a lot of snow for Laval.

Hey Prin I just thought of something....you mentioned how people asked if Boo and Jemma are mom and pup?? Do they ask you if the puppies are their kids?? lol

Frenchy
February 5th, 2006, 12:43 PM
Wow,they really are adorable. You are in Montreal? There is so much snow in your pictures, there is practicly nothing left here.

cpietra16
February 5th, 2006, 12:46 PM
Doolin, looks like a thinker...while his brother is the player...Doolin should be wearing glasses:p

Prin
February 5th, 2006, 12:49 PM
jiorji, I am so sure somebody will ask us. There was nobody social on the river yesterday, so nobody has asked yet... Wait till I tell them everybody will be neutered by next week!:D

I've noticed that Kerry's retinas are blue and Doolin's are green. It's cool because if you don't have their feet in the pic, sometimes it's hard to tell them apart. In person, I get it right about 80% of the time without the feet (they're very different personalities).

I'm so glad the new family is choosing to get Kerry too. Doolin is great, but Kerry is really something special. She just has so much love in her eyes. Love and softness. Doolin has some love and a lot of goofiness, which is great too. But they would definitely have regretted to not get Kerry with Doolin.

Prin
February 5th, 2006, 12:53 PM
Wow,they really are adorable. You are in Montreal? There is so much snow in your pictures, there is practicly nothing left here.
This was yesterday- before all the rain. Today we have maybe 15 cm left. We did get more here than Montreal though (in general).

Doolin, looks like a thinker...while his brother is the player...Doolin should be wearing glasses
Actually, Doolin is the player. When he feels safe, he plays FOREVER. lol He doesn't stop. Kerry is more laid back with spurts of energy (especially outside). She's more independent. Doolin does anything to get attention.

cpietra16
February 5th, 2006, 12:56 PM
Prin, don't forget to give the new parents the pets.ca site. Tell them that we have alot invested in these sweeties...well ok just let them know that we all feel like we are the "foster parents" and would like to follow their progress. I feel like I know them so well already. I would really miss seeing them. Let them know we are very possesive of our family members...never mind I am now scaring myself:D I need therapy:sick:

Prin
February 5th, 2006, 12:58 PM
LOL I'm thinking it... You say it, but I'm thinking it. I don't know what it will be like to give up pups and not know how they turned out or even what they look like (they'll morph so much in the next 2 years). I just hope their core person never changes.

Prin..make it part of the contract:D visitation rights:thumbs up

Prin
February 5th, 2006, 01:05 PM
Oh wait! I just looked at the pics again.. Ok, it's not THAT snowy here. Everybody just has tiny properties, so when they shovel their driveways, the banks get really high (i.e. there isn't enough room on the lawn for all the snow). Like right now, our lawn is almost bare (maybe 15cm, like I said) but the banks are still almost a meter high.

Cpietra, I don't do the contract. Luckily for the adopters.:D

cpietra16
February 5th, 2006, 01:09 PM
Oh I thought it was like fostering cats. I do have an imput on who they go to. I am not sure about the weight of my opinion but I was told that I can also look for people myself. Actually I think your puppies were spoken for before you got them...right?

Ok, I keep looking at that one of Doolin being carried and somehow when I resized it, it lost a bit of its essence. The cute part is that he is smiling. He's being carried and he's smiling about it.

You have no idea.:o Babies are different than adults because they have so much life ahead of them and you just want so much to happen in that little life. There's so much helplessness and hope. I wasn't ready for that. I somehow expected them to know everything already.:o

Yesterday they started moving in on Boo...

OMG your killing me Prin!! I'm so in love with these two:love: , and feel I know them, based on your daily pictures and discriptions of their antics!! I will be crying right along with you, when they have to go!! I just hope the new owners will post progress pics and reports:) :fingerscr

I just love newf mixes! when I fianlly do adopt, I hope mine will be just like one of these guys! I know if I was closer to BMDLuver, I would have begged to adopt one!!

Any more of these pictures and we will definately have to find a way of keeping these so so so so cute puppies...they so complement your boo. They all look like they couls be from the smae family...this could happen , you know:D :thumbs up  :D ...ofcourse that would mean we would have to exchange them for 2 other puupies that look exactly the same...or close. HEck we can also dye their fur ...if there's a will there's a way:D

Prin

Ohhhhhhhhh Prin...."sigh"

They are just gorgeous....I LOVE all the pics.

But I must say, this is a great experience for Jemma and Boo for when your Newfie pup comes along...;) ...I wouldn't doubt it if Boo gets a bit depressed when the youngings leave..He's starting to look like the big happy brother.

Oh,here is a pic of Abbey(sisters BC when she was a pup)..This is why I definately think they have BC in them...You be the judge...:)

Prin
February 7th, 2006, 10:56 PM
I don't know... Newfs have shorter noses, right? After looking at the pups for a while, Jemma and Boo's noses look incredibly long. It's so hard to tell what they would be mixed with. I wish I had a scanner to scan the first pics of Boo that I have. He was around 6 months and he looks like Kerry (but 75lbs). Looking at him then, you'd never recognize him now.

I'll tell you one thing though: they are smart as heck. Very, very smart puppies. You can teach them almost anything in under 3 tries. They learn from each other too, which speeds things up even more.

Their future family is so lucky.

Thats what I thought. I would love to foster a female adult dog but I guess it probably wont happen. I dont know if I am ready for a second dog but could see me giving one a home temporarily and it would give me some idea how we would do with two dogs in the house.

I don't know,I still see some BC in them..Hmmmmmm.

A family up the street from me was fostering an older black Newf and also had an adopted pup lab/NewfX,he looked just like these two sweeties.
The Newf has a new home, the pup is now 1yr old and no more has the fluffy, thick coat, but a silky long coat..looks like Boo,with long hair, but he has really long legs.Extreemly obedient and weel behaved.

Doolin discovered how to get on the Boo futon all by himself. I caught him looking all proud of himself.

Kerry has moved on though.. She still loves the futon, but she discovered how to get up on our bed. It was only a matter of time though- it's lower to the ground than the futon.:D

Look at him, all proud!:highfive:

We are lucky and we are just lovin these guys already. We can' t wait to kiss their bellies!
I know you must be concerned about us....so let me tell you a little about us.
We have three oldies now:
Harley a rescue Rottie we got from an abuse case. We've had him for 8 years, he's 10. He had a stroke last year and it left him a little off balance and somewhat the goofball. But we love him.
Katie, my sweet GSD she's 9 and we just found out she has heart disease, but we haven't told her yet so she's not showing any signs of it.
And Charlie, our 8 yr old St. Bernard/Lab Mix, he's a honey...lost his tail as a pup so he kinda looks like a bear.
We also have 2 cats now, Ernie(4) and Miss Kitty(18). We lost our old lady, Tiger (21) last year. :(

We've had pets as our family (no kids) all of our 26 years together and we have our share of fur babies waiting for us at the Bridge.

Too much more to tell here and am not sure if this is the place. Like I said I'm new to this forum stuff but am a quick learner

Prin
February 10th, 2006, 12:58 AM
LOL It's best not to post the really personal info, but after being here a while, you kinda forget...:D

These babies are a ton of work... They make me never want to have skin babies.:D About 80% of the day, they're great but that last 20%, they overload me with work. They pee on a cycle, it seems- so there'll be none for a while and then rivers everywhere! And they taught me one important lesson: NEVER move a pee pad. Once you put it down, there always has to be one there.:o I still haven't gotten them to pee outside. They're still too new at the whole outdoors thing. Kerry plays outside but Doolin... well... if he's not just sitting there, he might be wandering slowly, but that's about it.

I was so glad to hear you won't be using crates too. These two would do pretty badly in a crate, even though in the beginning they loved it. Now, just to get them in my laundry room before I leave for school is a real chore. I have to bribe them with Jemma and Boo's food.:D They love the food so much, they fall for it every time. But they really need to be free and just to be around. They don't have to be in the same room as you, but the minute you close a door and they're on the other side of it (even if it's the bigger side) they start to cry quietly.

I just hope their neutering goes smoothly. Both got a little sniffly from the bordetella vaccine, but they seem ok... It comes and goes a little bit.

They're so loving though. Doolin's got a bit of attitude and I'm sure he'll show you when he gets settled in. Kerry is the barker. Doolin is the whiner/wuss. He's so sensitive. Kerry needs some alone time from Doolin because he can be too much for even her... :D

But seriously, for puppies, these two are so laid back. Aside from my coffee table and some shoe laces (and a lot of newspaper) these two haven't really chewed anything substantial.

So much to say!:)

ZebbyZeb
February 10th, 2006, 01:12 AM
It's been a while since we've had puppies so it's great havin some first hand advice from their foster mom, so keep it comin. :thumbs up
They go in Tuesday for the fixin, right? Have they finished with the shots, yet?

Prin
February 10th, 2006, 01:18 AM
Yep, Valentine's day they get desexed! :D

They had their first set of shots the Monday before we picked them up (last week), so I think they need the next set a month after those, and then again at 6 months with the rabies (they don't have rabies yet at all).

I'm not a puppy expert at all... We got Boo at about 6 months old. He wasn't house trained yet, but it only took a day to teach him. With these two, I have no idea. I think it'll take a while to get them to go outside. Hopefully, they'll get even more efficient with their pee pads so they won't break your bank account (newspaper really doesn't absorb anything!).

I taught them to sit already and I'm maybe at 50% for the lie down. Once I get them to sit, I have such a short time to get them to lie down before they start wrestling... They also know sort of when to drop things. I say "no, that's not a toy" or "no don't eat that" and they usually drop it because they really, really hate it when you go throat fishing...

They're very smart. :)

They'll get their first leptospirosis on Tuesday as well. We didn't want to combine, D2appch and bordetella and lepto all together as we wouldn't be able to see a reaction with three or would but wouldn't know which one. They'll then need a booster in 2 weeks for the 5-in-1 and in 4 weeks a lepto booster. Then at 16 weeks they are ready for their Rabies.

Prin is very attached to the little one's in case you can't tell. :D

I'm making the appointment with my vet for the Monday after they come home. So I'll be passing all this on to her.

I know Prin is getting attached. She's an angel for fostering, :angel:and I must say doing a really terrific job. You can see by the pics how they've grown, both in size and personality!!!! Hi ZebbyZeb,

Congrats on your new additions to the family! They are so adorable. Kerry and Doulin's pics make me wish I had a house full of puppies...Prin's reportage reminds me why that may not be such a good idea.

When do you finally get them home?

Prin
February 10th, 2006, 10:46 AM
I'm just glad that you found pets.ca so it's not losing a couple of doggies anymore, but passing them to another member, so the threads can keep coming.:D

I didn't know they gave the rabies at 4 months.. I always heard 6 months and thought it was a little long.:o

Prin

Doolin got a chin itch...

Prin

i just a have a question. can u neuter puppies this young and have no i'll effects on their developement. I thought you had to wait till 6months? Buy the way, i'm jealous this 2 are the cutest little fuzz-balls. i hope we get updated pic as they grow:fingerscr

Prin
February 10th, 2006, 11:41 AM
There shouldn't be any effects. More recent research shows that neutering before puberty causes the growth plates to fuse later, meaning your doggy will be a couple of pounds bigger at maturity than if you do it after puberty. The growth plates need sex hormones to close, and neutering reduces them. But it's really not substantial.

I would wonder about spay incontinence because maybe the reserves of estrogen would be lower, but since that happens to dogs neutered at any age, I don't think it really matters when you spay... I'd rather have it done earlier on my doggies for behavioral reasons.:)

ZebbyZeb

February 11th, 2006, 08:02 PM
Well, it's almost 9PM and it's nearly time for me to stop chilling out... :D

We went for a walk today, me, Kerry, Boo and Jemma (Doolin is too scared and I can't walk 3 dogs and carry one by myself...). Kerry is really good on the leash with encouragement. You can tell she still lacks confidence and gets second thoughts about her own bravery, but one "Good girl!" and she keeps on going and forgets everything.

Doolin is definitely the lover. He doesn't do much other than chew and ask for lovin'.

They were both a bit snottier and horkier today so I'm hoping they'll be ok in time for their neutering..:fingerscr

Kerry is a biter. It's weird because Doolin never bites on purpose, but Kerry is still trying to figure out how much biting is ok.

We've been ready and can't wait. :D We were a little low on dog toys (my guys don't seem to play with them so much anymore) so we went out and bought a whole bunch of new stuff and are getting the house as puppy proof as much as we can.
I'll do my best to keep up with the pics, but I can't promise the amusing dialog that Prin supplies.
As far a my gang goes...Katie should be a cinch, she's the lover/pleaser in the group and is the absolute social butterfly. Charlie might be a little jealous in the beginning but as long as we don't ignore him, he'll be fine. Ernie will hate it and spend a lot of time hiding behind the love seat and it probably won't even phase Harley and Miss Kitty. She hardly moves around any more and since Harley's stroke I don't think he even knows where he is most of the time.

All in all....it should be quite the challenge and something we're up for. :highfive:

to be totally honest with you, I really see them as being a chow mix, especially there size. How old are they now ?. The one with holding the toy looks identical to a chow pup, with a longer nose

BMDLuver
February 12th, 2006, 12:14 PM
As they are now around 9 weeks and most likely weighing 25+ pounds.. as they were 13 & 14 lbs at 7 weeks, they would be pretty large Chows.. don't you think?

I was just saying they really seem to have some chow. But no one will ever know

Prin
February 12th, 2006, 03:30 PM
Yep, they're heavy buggers at this point. Especially Doolin. He's at least 3 or 4 inches taller than Kerry right now. If they are mixed, I see a bit of collie in them. Doolin has the collie ears and his nose is a bit longer and his stop isn't very abrupt. I wouldn't be surprised if their ears end up erect- well, Doolin's anyway. They seem to be lifting, but then again, it could just be the masses of fur under them that do that.

The two twits chewed through my mouse today... I had to break out my Crayola rollie mouse (it's enormous!). Little buggers. You can't leave them for a minute. I'll just have to buy a new one and charge it to the rescue. KIDDING! I would never do that. Take money away from dogs in need because I don't keep my eye on these two monsters.. Especially not for a mouse I got free.

Ok... New pics... hmm...

In this one, you can see Doolin's ears.. What do you guys think? They're not flat, right?

It's not the best pic, but just to give you an idea of Kerry's size. She's, what, 9 or 10 weeks now? Jemma is 60lbs and Boo is 87 lbs.. (oh, by the way, she's not terrified, she's actually playing with Boo, running away with her hiney tucked in..)

Well Zebby,I'm sure it will all work out........:thumbs up

Prin, their ears are pretty short...Which in pure Newfies they are longer, even as adults.....They could have Collie,or even BC(which for some reason I can see)

Check these guys out...

They are 10 weeks and 25lbs

Welcome ZebbyZeb!!
Your furbabies have made quite a hit here!!
Are you going to keep those names, ar do you have something else in mind?

I still think they are part BC, but in a way that's a good thing, because I don't think you will have the big DROOL problems of a pure Newf:p And I agree with Prin, they are cuter then pure newfs!!:)

Prin
February 12th, 2006, 07:28 PM
Oh, I forgot to ask that... Will you keep the names? I think their names suit them so well... Kerry is so independent that it's fitting that she have a very human name. Doolin is such a wuss, drama queen and a goof, so his softer name works for him too.

And when they grow up all huge, Kerry can be Ker-Bear and variations of that... Doolin can be Doo, Big Doo, Doobie, Doobily, doodie patootie, Doo-bear... (I know more for Doo because of Boo...).

Tonight I cleaned their ears... Kerry's ears were horribly dirty. The wax just flaked off. She wasn't a problem, but Doolin... Oh the drama... I wiped the flap with a dry kleenex and the screams! His ears were so clean but he was such a baby about it.:D

ZebbyZeb
February 13th, 2006, 07:05 AM
So, Doolin's a little dramatic, huh? Well, that's just par. Our 2 male Labs, George and Zebby were horrible when it came to getting their ears clean. The howling was unbelievable. You'd think we were killing them.

George's sister, Gracie, was a real trooper, though. She would cry while we were cleaning George's ears and then push her way in so that we could clean hers to show him that it didn't hurt. Never had a problem with their mom, MaggieMae, either.

The only one that hate's it now is Ernie, but then, he hates everything!

You know, we've been discussing names. We're not sure what we want to do. We may keep the ones they have but we've also been playing around with a few couple names. You know like: Fred & Ethel; Betty & Barney; Ralph & Alice. Really corny, but we're kinda like that, corny! Lou's leaning towards Trixie & Norton and I kinda like Dudley & Julia but we'll wait until we get them home.

As far as what they're mixed with....we were just hoping for big, black and healthy. We initially thought about buying a purebred Newf, but a friend of ours convinced us that there were lots of puppies out there that needed homes, so we opted to adopt.

It does look as if their ears are gonna stand up...we'll see. Whatever they are, they will be much loved.

My neighbour across the street has a newfie and my parents neighbour has a newfie as well (different dogs) They both taught the dogs a very important command when they are outside. "Shake" The drool goes flying over the place!

The Newfie that lives besides me, is horrible on his leash! He pulls like crazy and drags his owner down the street. His owner never seems to get mad, just smiles and trys to control him. They also have have their dog clipped all the time, even in the winter.

People across the street from my parents have kids, the dog is very well trained and walks like a prince on his leash.

When they were pups, they looked very similar to Doolin and Kerry. Both dogs are very gentle and beautiful.

LOL Mona... That was my man's reaction. :D He was all, "Really? :( But they're just starting to really know their names!"

But I don't want to pressure their new family. I mean, they're not our dogs, right Mona?

It's hard for me too, because I have never named a dog, so I sort of don't believe in it. I think destiny names them in a way. Our dogs always came with a name that nobody knew the history of except Boo. But he chose his own name (we tried dozens and he chose Boo).

The other thing is once ZebbyZeb meets them and gets to know them, she'll see how individual they are and she might not see sort of coupling names as suitable. Sort of like how some parents of twins never dress the kids the same?

Kerry and Doolin are really different individuals. They're each so special in their own way.

No pics- they're at the vet tonight for the big op.

I found out early this morning that Doolin gets car sick... ew... He threw up corn- sorry to get graphic, but he hasn't eaten any corn of any kind since he's been here, so it was just in storage in his belly all this time...

I think this overnight vet trip is helpful in getting me ready to let them go. Jemma and Boo aren't even reacting really. You'd think they'd have a surge of energy or something, but they don't. Same ol', same ol'. Just less growling. Jemma let me play with her feets for a long time without ever growling. I guess that's her way of being thankful.:D

They are getting a lot more attention though... Imagine next week when I'm on spring break and I'm home with only them all week! :pawprint:

Wow! I guess I better watch what I say! I only mentioned that we haven't decided yet. All the dogs we have now came to us already named. Everyone thinks we picked 'em...you know Harley....Charlie...right? Nope, they came with those names. I like Kerry just fine, it's just that the name Doolin reminds us of someone we used to know. Not a very nice person and Lou has a problem with that. That's why the only thing we have decided on, is to wait till we get them home. Is that okay with everyone? ;)

I found out early this morning that Doolin gets car sick... ew... He threw up corn- sorry to get graphic, but he hasn't eaten any corn of any kind since he's been here, so it was just in storage in his belly all this time...
Great to know. We'll have to come prepared for this. I feel bad, he's gonna feel just awful after the 5 hour drive home. I know...I used to get horrible car sickness when I was a kid :yuck: Anyone got any ideas how we can make it easier on the little guy?
Prin, please let us know how the surgery went. Thanks

We got Jesse "puppy prozac" for our car ride from Maryland to Florida. It was great. She slept between us, on her bed, in the front of the moving truck the entire time. She only woke up for potty breaks and of course, she wasn't allowed to jump out of the truck, we had to carry her.

I'm seeing the vet on thursday for some surgery consults so I'll ask him if there is anything we can give them to not feel so blechy for the trip.

As for the names.. I think that names are pretty personal and at this age, they switch over to any name fairly easily. ;) I simply picked two good Irish names that refer to Black for obvious reasons. :)

BMDLuver
February 15th, 2006, 06:49 AM
Dubhlainn "dove + lin" Doolin From dubh "black" and lan "blade, sword" means "black sword." Dubhlainn loved the fairy queen and legendary harpist Aoibhell who gave him her cloak of invisibility to wear in battle.

Kerry

ciar means "dark" and probably implies "dark hair and brown eyes." County Kerry means "the land of the descendant of Ciar" who was the love-child of the High King Fergus Mac Roth and the legendary Queen Maebh.

Got the second meaning wrong Zebby so wanted to post them here so you would know.

ZebbyZeb, we're half joking, you know. They are your dogs and if you don't like the names, by all means, change them. :)

For the car sickness, Doolin's a cuddler, so with cuddling, he might be alright. It was one of their first trips in the car and they were alone, with no crate, in the back seat. When I go get them, I'll see how he is in the car.

They're home. They're ok. They weren't sure why we were there, but about halfway home they figured out who we were and started to get happy. They ate a ton and are now wandering around looking for things to chew on. Doolin went straight for the shoes.:D

They're both a little licky so we'll have to keep an eye on them.

They both came home on my lap in the car and Doolin didn't so much as drool. I think it was just being alone in a strange place that made him puke last time. He needs a lot of cuddling.

I think he was saving all his pee for us because he came in and dropped about a liter...

Oh and they're lighter than we thought. Kerry is 16lbs (totally empty) and Doolin is about 20lbs. I asked the receptionisty person and she said they were 10 lbs each (which I found hard to believe- I'm stronger than that!:o ), so I weighed them again.

Baby gravol is what you give to little kids for motion sickness. My vet said it would be perfectly safe to give to the two little one's for the long car ride. They each get just one tablet two hours before the trip then hopefully it will greatly reduce the risk of vomitting and nausea. Let me know. You can email me what you wish to do. ;)
