Dog urinating blood

January 31st, 2006, 12:32 PM
I have a 10 year old male blue heeler. About 4 days ago I noticed his urine was brown and had little specs of bright red blood in it. About 2 days ago I started him on Peniciline G at 2cc's per day. Now, there is bright red blood first and then brown urine. He has no "projection" and the urine just falls out drop by drop. Now his appetite is at half of usual but his personality hasn't changed at all. Can you please share any ideas, thoughts, and or suggestions? Thank you in advance for your time.

I suggest to take your dog to the vet ASAP!

I second that, sounds like a bladder infection, ouch! Please do not give him any more medication until he has seen the vet and the problem has been identified.

I agree. Without a urinalysis, you can't know if it's a bladder infection or not and giving pre-emptive antibiotics might slow your dog's immune system and hinder rather than help.

Boo had blood in his urine, but it was bright red and it turned out to be bladder stones.

Brown urine suggests that there is something happening further up, IMO. This doggy might need his kidneys checked out too.
