dog losing hair

My dog, who is an almost three year old collie, has just started shredding hair like there is no tomorrow. He doesn't appear to have any bald patches and doesn't appear to be unwell. Is it normal to shed hair at this time of the year, it has just turned really cold and is the start of a wet and cold British winter. Would appreciate any advise!

Many dogs seem to shed more just as winter starts approaching, maybe to make room for the real heavy winter coat.

A good diet, a bit higher in fat, controls shedding and keeps the coat & skin healthier in winter, I've found. Maybe adding some olive oil or (better) fish oil capsules to your dog's diet will help.
