Dog food recommendations

January 11th, 2006, 08:11 PM
The February issue of the Whole Dog Journal has a great article on kibble. It also includes a list of recommended foods. Many of the foods discussed here are on the list.
Solid Gold
Natural Balance
Chicken soup
It is a great starting point for anyone looking to improve the food they are feeding their dog.
You must be a subscriber to read the artilce but it is fairly inexpensive to sign up for an online subscription. I believe about $20.00 U.S. a year.
The web site is :

The February issue is the new recommendations for 2006. I don't know if there are any changes because I haven't compared the 2005 list against this years.

Does anyone have an opinion on Performatrin Ultra?

Rocky has been having a few problems lately, just doesn't seeem himself. and as I posted on anther thread, he got a bad rash from his muzzle and is scratching alot were his harness touches him, he just seemed all of a sudden to be showing his age, anyways I gave him antibiotics for his rash and it is clearing up but I also put him on Wysong, Ive had him on that food before and didn't notice a difference but this time, after only a week or so, his coat looks much better and he just seems back to himself. It didn't solve his rash or his scratching, but his coat over all has become noticably more shiny and he seems to have bulked up a little, hes always been on the skinny side, I have also increased his exercise, whether is good and I dont want his new "bulk" to turn to fat. but I n ow am raving about wysong, just wish it werent so expensive!!!!!

Looks good. The only "bad" thing is the egg product, but that's nothing really.

I feed the Performatrin Ultra Chicken and brown rice to my cats. So far so good.. nice soft fur, NO gas.. lol and less poop. They seem happy with it.

I was actually thinking of trying this food with Bubba. But he's doing fine with the Hundenflocken.. so you know the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" ;)
