Why does he do this?

My cat, Tommy, (not quite a year old) has made up a new game. What he does is; take one single piece of food out of his dish, bat it around on the floor for awhile, then he eats it. He repeats this process untill his hunger is fulfilled. It is very cute, charming and funny, but why does he do this?!!! Is he bored and just looking for fun or... Well, I don't know, that's why I'm asking. Any ideas? Does anyone else has have a "silly kitty"?

Seems like regular silly kitten behavior to me....He's just playing
by treating the kibble like a mouse

I suspect that she will grow out of it soon. When my cat was a kitten she used to do the same thing with dry poo. Now THAT"S a sillier kitten.

My kitten used to love to bat around pipe cleaners in the shape of a 'z' (still does)about 3 inches long. You can buy them at any dollar store.

Hide the pipe cleaner behind your back then take it out and throw it. All cats are a bit different when it comes to 'toys' but it might work. I still leave the pipe cleaners around the house and my cat still plays or hunts them down.
