Oder coming from cat's face.

September 29th, 2003, 03:32 PM
My friend just took in a stray whole male, and had him neutered on the 16 of September. She had told me that he has the largest jawls she had ever seen on a cat. The cat had been checked over by a vet, and the teeth are good, and there are no ear problems, but there is a musky oder coming from his face. Does anyone know if this could be the glands that are causing the oder, and will this get better since the cat was neutered, or does that have anything to do with it? I was wondering if anyone had heard of this condition before, or could this be a health problem that needs to be investigated?:D

Cats do have scent glands on their faces - this is why they rub their cheeks against objects when marking territory.

Since the vet checked teeth and ears, I would wait and see if the odour diminishes. After neutering, it takes large adult toms awhile to get rid of some of the secondary sex characteristics, although their urine may always be a bit musky.
