have you tried www.petfinder.com

It will list a huge portion of the dogs available to you.

If petfinder misses any rescue, check www.adoptananimal.ca for a list of all the rescues in your area.

Good luck!!

When we were trying to find our first dog one of the shelters let me know that small dogs don't do well in the shelters and they put us in touch with a small dog rescue organization in our state. This organization fosters the dogs in homes rather than in a shelter and we were just in time for a pet adoption day. Maybe you could ask the shelters you've tired if they know of another organization.

We also found veterinarians to be helpful. I spoke with several at length to determine what breeds would be a good fit for our family and lifestyle.

Good luck to you ! It's so fun gaining a new member of the family. And when you do be sure to come back here. I've only been here a few short months and I've learned so much about responsible pet ownership. I've benefitted and so has my new pup.

Roxy, we were posting at the same time. I'm going to use the info you posted when spring comes. We may be looking for another rescue dog then.

Awwww. I love when people adopt. I would like my next one to be a rescue. Just curious where Nort east is. Is that North East Canada or US or Ontario??

Maybe its the time of year?

Is there a "high season" for dogs at the rescues?

Do you have some particular objection to a purebred? I just went to Petfinder and typed in Dog, Small, Ontario, and 126 listings popped up.

Of course you need a dog who is good with cats and kids, so that narrows it down considerably.

However, if you go to the following link, you'll see a few small dogs who seem to have no restrictions on them.

Good luck and welcome to the board!!:)

Hi there,
both of the Littlepaws rescues have some small
dogs.
One is on the Island, one is in Vancouver.
Im sure they could arrange transport for a dog
if you wanted it. Currently they have a Min Pin,
A Pom, an Eskie, a Mini- Schnauzer cross,
and a Shih Tzu. Check regularly, the sites are
updated often with new dogs coming in all
the time!
Also, a friend of mine, Sabrina, has a purebred
Collie rescue up for adoption if you like Collies.
She works hard with them, check out her site
as well.

Heres their sites:

Roxy, I'm in the northeast, USA. New Jersey actually. (Don't believe what you've heard---NJ is beautiful. They don't show you the pretty parts on the news.)

My first dog was a rescue and I never got over being grateful that he was safe and warm.

Do they show pretty parts in "Garden State" (with Zach Braff)?

Maybe its the time of year? They are probably all snatched up for Christmas presents... Are you willing to wait? In Jan and Feb there should be a ton of post-Christmas rejects. Sad but true.:(

Does anyone know if these two are still available?
They aren't mixed, but they are cuties.
