Pet cremation services?

Well I'm hoping that I'm waaaaay to premature with this, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of pet cremation services in the Toronto area. I have an 11 1/2 year old shepherd who is still doing very well :thumbs up and I suspect we'll still have her for a few years :fingerscr I also know though that it would be good to know ahead of time what our plan will be so that when the dreaded moment comes we don't make any rushed decisions under horrible and sad circumstances.....

So I'm absolutely paranoid that our sweet old lady could end up in some kind of rendering plant or something. Also my friend actually got more ashes for her significantly smaller dog then her bigger one that had died a year before from the vet station. So I want to make sure that when the time comes, I can be in control of what happens to my dog.

I met the woman from www.silentfriends.com at a pet expo who seemed nice, but don't know much about them otherwise. Anyone out there use any pet cremation services?

I happened to be at the McMurrich Emergency Clinic in Toronto when 6 beautifully wrapped and ribboned boxes arrived. As it was Easter, I thought they were gifts for the staff. Then a couple came to pick up their pet's ashes - that is what was in the boxes. So McMurrich must have a connection with an outside service or perhaps even with the service that handles mass cremations. Actually, maybe your own vet could make the arrangements for you. Hopefully you have a few more years before you will have to make a decision.

I recently used a pet cremation service for the first time. The lady who owns it invites owners to come and view the process if you wish. This ensures your pet is being disposed of as you wish it to be, and that the urn you get back does contain your pet.

If the service won't allow you to be present for the cremation, I would worry.

My thoughts exactly, I want to be present for the cremation... I would not trust a vet station (even though I have a wonderful vet), because they send the animals out and contract the jobs to others. Whether you actually get the ashes of your pet or not you can't be certain of, that's why I'm hoping to find a place that would allow me to be there and witness what's going on.

I certainly don't want to make anyone feel bad about their vet stations ;) , just want to be 100% sure of what happens to my old lady!
