Possible Tooth Problem

November 30th, 2005, 08:37 AM
I have a concern that I hope some group members may be able to provide
some insight on. I'm not sure if I am over-reacting but also don't
want to ignore what could be a serious issue.

Bailey's teeth are quite clean as he likes to chew on Kongs etc. However I have noticed some tarter build-up on his canine teeth so I try to brush them regularly.

Last night when I went to brush them I noticed one of his canines
looked to be a slightly different colour than the other, it had a very
slight grey tinge and it had some scaly deposits at the top near the
gum line.

I am worried he has damaged his tooth. I have noticed he has bad
breath of late but he had a full vet check-up last week and she did a
through inspection of his mouth as I told her my breath concerns. She
didn't find anything wrong.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me as to what I could do to remove
the scaly deposits? What happens if he has damaged one of his
canines? Do they have the same kind of dental implants for dogs as
they do people when we loose a tooth?

I am concerned about him and feel upset that I may not have noticed a
serious problem sooner.

He does not appear to be in any obvious pain or discomfort. His appetite and energy levels are the same and he allowed me to thoroughly inspect the tooth without exhibiting any sings of pain.

TIA for any help.
