Question about Allergy Shots

November 25th, 2005, 03:16 PM
When we went to the vet last week Schultz received an anti-allergy shot. Would it react much like a human taking allergy medication, and work for four hours and the effects would wear off? Or would it have a longer lasting effect?

Depends what it was. If it was cortisone, it will really kick in within the next couple of weeks and last a month or two. Be aware that cortisone increases thirst and lots of drinking leads to more peeing, but not for long, maybe a couple of days after getting the shot. I don't limit the water, I just let them out more.;)

I'll have to call the vet's office and find out what it was, though I don't think it was cortisone. I noticed that a day after receiving the shot, he has stopped itching his jaw and now he just itches like a regular dog!
