Cat has a cold

November 20th, 2005, 03:58 AM
My cat is sneezing and very conjested. She is not lethargic, but I am worried. I have absolutely NO MONEY to take her to a vet. (I have no one to borrow from either!) I know she probably needs antibiotics in order to get better. Can a cold go away without antibiotics, or does anyone have any suggestions. I am worri
ed sick.

Sounds like your cat really needs to see a vet. Can you make payment arrangements with your vet? Colds can turn ugly really quickly. I would try to get the cat to a vet.

Your cat probably has rhinotracheitis, a very common upper respiratory infection.

As long as she is eating and drinking sufficient amounts, and does NOT have green discharge from eyes or nose, it will probably pass without too much trouble. Keep eyes and nose wiped clean and make sure any discharge is clear. Give her nourishing canned food.

BUT if she stops eating, becomes lethargic or has the green discharge, that is a sign of secondary infection and she must have antibiotics.
