Baytril complications?

Hi everyone,

Our 7 month old cat was recently administered Baytril for diarrhea which resulted from a viral infection, according to our vet. He was given one dose of 22.7mg for 5 days.

The diarrhea has stopped, but he has several different issues after this treatment that he didn't have prior to the Baytril prescription. He is very lethargic, eats very little and will only eat kibble. He also grinds his teeth when eating and his overall behavior has drastically changed in that he doesn't play or have any interests in kitten stuff. When he had the diarrhea, he was much more playful, happy, and had a healthy appetite.

He has been off the medication for almost 3 weeks now and we are beginning to question our vet because she told us that some of these symptoms were normal side affects of Baytril? Is this true? She told us to give him a month to recover.

What are your thoughts?

So sorry about your cat.There are many warnings about Baytril with cats,I had a healthy spry senior cat who took it a few years ago for a bladder infection and he bled out and died.

I would go to another vet.

Please go back to vet immediately. Your cat needs to be checked.

I wanted to let you know that we lost our little guy today, he ended up having FIP. We admitted him to the hospital last Monday and were told then that it looks like FIP and they wanted to keep him to be safe. We were lucky enough to visit him every day up until Saturday and had plans to visit him today, he left us this afternoon. Thanks for your support. Hopefully one day a cure will be discovered for FIP.
