I broke my promise. Sorry.

So I went to the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness appreciation night, where they show appreciation to the police, and specifically, the sex crimes unit. Last night, they also presented Julian Fantino with a special award.

As I'm walking in the door, I meet this girl on her way out. I stepped aside to allow her to pass, and the man who was obviously with her followed. I looked at him. Non-descript, rather small, and timid looking. He gave me a sheepish smile. I started to smile back, but something came over me. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I'd seen him before. I felt something tighten in my chest, and my hand actually started to twitch. Then, as my passive, "How YOU doing?" glance I gave the girl changed to an icy glare, my eyes widening just ever-so-slightly, barely hiding my, "you need to get out of my face" look, I realized why I was feeling the way I was. It was--him! MICHAEL BRYANT!!

I'd always promised to give him a shot in the mush and push his face in if I ever saw him, and here he was, as if God delivered him to me (the reception was in a converted church). Now, granted, I don't think I thought I would actually run into him, so it was a hollow promise. Still...

It was a tough night. Speakers talked about kiddie porn, with some descriptions from the sex crimes unit, and lots of anger directed at the government who really, has done not much to protect the public. Interestingly enough, Bryant was ducking out before it really started. The prevailing attitude was he didn't want the media to ask for an answer to the questions the speakers were asking.

The one I wanted to aske? Why is it that if my dog happened to get off leash, and wants nothing more than to be loved and play, has never threatened anyone, I would be fined $50 000 and she would be destroyed, based on the possibility should would attack, because less than .01% of the pitbull population has attacked, yet if a pedaphile approached my daughter, he would be off the streets for 14 DAYS and then back again?? Why is it that every pedaphile ever arrested has been said by psychologists to have a VERY HIGH likelihood of offending again, are allowed back into the community, yet my dog, who has been said by equally qualified experts to have a VERY LOW likelihood of hurting anyone, and ESPECIALLY since she doesn't even have to have offended yet, was considered dangerous and restricted?

Oh, I also wanted to ask him how he's able to see where he's walking with his head up his butt.

Don't feel bad Schwinn, there really are no benefits to punching the stupid AG in the face. Won't help the cause. I am sorry you had to see him though, must have been really difficult.

OMG Schwinn...Ive often wondered what I would do if I just bumped into him...grrrrr. I would probably just start shaking and then cry LOLI might be too overwhelmed to say anything. It's interesting that he would be sneaking out early from an event like that...I really think that alot of the public is linking his inaction on EVERY Thing other than Pit bulls now. All of the sudden MB prefers to be INvisable....not our MIKEY grrrr! But Im glad he seems to be running scared. I ran into someone who I assume was from the "legal community" at my exercise class. I had mentioned taking the dog out EARLY before the early Sun AM class and she asked what kind of dog I had....anyway she then asked if I felt like a pariah...no I feel victimized was my reply. She then said, yes, the legal Cummunity had high hopes for some good legislation when he was given that post. "I said" WHY I saw and heard him debate the bill he reminds me of a cartoon character...I didn't see a glimmer of any intelligence there! We went on to discuss how ridiculous it was that he went after pit bulls and ignored gun violence. This really seems to be the prevailing opinion to me! You make excellent points about the pedaphiles. Good stuff for an editorial!!!!!!! Good stuff for the election campaign too!

BTW, punching out the AG, however much deserved, probably doesn't go well with an application to the polic dept. LOL!

Schwinn why not write the star and the sun about lil mike ducking out and then connect it to pits somehow.

This was a letter to the sun that was published today. Check out the editors comment.

Calling Michael Bryant

Convicted murderers and rapists get day passes to visit amusement parks like Canada's Wonderland ("Convicts get free rides; Chiefs," Oct. 19). Not too long ago, Ontario's Attorney General Michael Bryant made a fuss about getting tough on schoolgirl-killer Karla Homolka's conditional prison release. Will he use the same amount of energy fighting this latest gaffe in our justice system?

D. Butler

Whitby

(We'd prefer the energy he used to fight pitbulls)

Punching the AG in a room full of cops......priceless. Getting away with it......almost impossible he is after all the AG.

Don't worry about it. He really isn't worth the effort. Do everything you can to vote him out instead.

I probably would of asked if I could get him a refreshment though. .

Really? Bryant has influence? Other than police officers he's bribed (Fantino - rewarded with a new job by the liberals one week after testifying at the hearings) most I spoke to think he's a moron. The contempt towards his plan to reduce gun violence was evident on nearly every cops face in the room when he proposed it.

History judges morons like this guy. See you in 2007.

I vote for writing the letter. You know the expression - the pen (now the byte) is mighter than the sword. I recenly read an excellent report on Financial and Social Implications of Breed Specific Legislation presented to the NB Legislative committee examining thx to a zealous opportunist opposition politicain (a Liberal of course ) and it had some excellent points and info I had not read previously.

Some things I learned - that most of you already know:
-Of the 78% of bites IDed by people in ER depts) German accounted for by far the most and pit bull terriers were about the same as Goldens! (I sort of knew this, just not the offocial stats).
- If I were part of the lobby in Ontario to overturn the law, I would use that 1998 study by Sr. Sheela Basrur who quotes this table as part of report on policy directions - kind of using the data supplied by a municpal govt official , esp for that woman whose dog is in trouble in Toronto,
- In tests by the ATTS, pits were above labs and goldens in temperment tests. ie they came out as having slightly better temperments.
- It is more costly to have a breed ban than not and many court cases have been won by dog owners who challenged it in court. And even when the govt in question won, the court costs were too much. Not to mention the costs of housing the impounded dogs. (while the real culprits - nelonging to irresponsible owners) are running free , many underground.
- The author details the UK;s costly ban which was amended just a few yrs after its implentation. Enacted in the height of concern over bited and died on the order paper so to speak when the govt saw how much money it was costing them.
- Price George County, Washington is now looking at ending its ban for the same reason - it is costing them a fortune and is ineffective. Same for Cincinnati where it has already been repeaked outright.
- while not re pitbulls specfically, she notes that 100 Mennonite and Amish farmers are responsible for selling 10,000 puppies a year!!! (Wonder what St. Francis of Assis would think of that!!!, hardly sounds Christian to me!) One earmed almosy $300,000/yr! (She suggested the govt put its eneggies toward banning unscrupulous breeders).

There was much more of course but a lot of grat info in that report.

Schwinn get out that pen and send it to all the media like NOW and EYE and the regular newspapers. But I bet Now would love it they are always doing stories about the loser politians like Bryant. Maybe you should question as to why he put so much time and energy into banning a dog and is doing diddly squat about young offenders and gun violence. Maybe if he went after young offenders and made them truly pay for their crimes instead of getting a slap on the wrists there may not have been a pit bull problem. A lot of these little thugs are the ones with dogs that are there self esteem and make them so tough because otherwise most are a bunch of losers who need someone or something to make them cool and tough. Maybe you could suggest he actually do his job instead of being a media pig. Go get him

I figured punching him probably wouldn't do me much good. I looked into my checklist of things to do while I'm trying to get on the force...

Don't speed.
Don't get into confrontations with road ragers during the commute (if it wasn't so annoying, it'd be humourous watching these jerks take out fenders trying to pass everyone on the right on Woodbine)
Don't punch the AG.

Yup, I have to forget that one.

I thought about writing the letter. Unfortunatly, though my position with the CCAA isn't very important, my sister's is, and my father's is EXTREMELY important. We already had an incident with Darringer ticking off the wrong people and serious reprocussions from that. I'm still thinking I might under a psuedonym, though.

OMG Schwinn! I couldn't imagine bumping into him. Like babyrocky said shaking and crying, that's probably what I'd do!

I am so very sorry you had to see him in person! I hope this won't traumatize you too badly! I feel ill now, ugh, I can't stand talking about him!

You can use my name as well....Mastifflover beet me too it LOL....He definately already has my name so no problem!!!!!!!! As for Now magazine, they have been really bad about covering the court challenge... making negative comments about Ruby taking the case!!!! You would think, since they pride themselves on being an "alternative" to the "main stream" that they wouldn't get their info on the subject from the same sources, head lines in the main stream media! GRRRR! I know I should have written a letter to complain, some people have, by the time I would have had it done they had moved on so it wouldn't have been printed. ahhh excuses excuses.....BTW I actually have seen him and didn't cry or shake ,but I was expecting to see him cause it was at the committee hearings, ...the woman with me was trying to tell him off but he said he was too busy to listen to her cause he "had to read hansard" this was after he had already given the press conference saying Ontario will ban pit bulls...the hearings were not even over. If I just ran into him though, God knows what I would do!!!! Suffice it to say I hope it never happens!!! I do think about it alot cause I have lots of clients in his riding. YIKES does he live in his riding ????? shudder shudder

I think I would tell my 9 year old SD that that was the guy that banned her dog and then send her over there (hoping some media is around) and have her say something to the effects of this being the guy that thinks her precious pet is dangerous and then kick him in the shins. Ahh how I dream.

I figure she is less likely to get in trouble and whatever I would do to him would land me in jail. I always dreamed of telling him off, or meeting him with capone. I wonder what his reaction to these vicous dogs if he does cross paths while out with his family. Does he cross the street? Scowl? Part of me thinks he doesn't even believe it. How could a german shep fancier support BSL. It just doesnt seem right.

Maybe we should have the first pit bull co op meet up outside his front door. Make that the meet up point. I wonder if he would call the cops. And if he did could they do anything?

Ok ok you got me scheming here and honestly it will end up no where good. I will stop but first let me say how funny that was TWO Dogs!

That would be scary to see. Not because of the pits but because of all the muzzles... It's like walking shackled prisoners through town, you know? I don't mean to offend, but the muzzles just seem so barbaric and to see a huge group wearing them...

Holy crap Prin, that is a real gem. You are too freakin funny.

It's so hard to be prepared for those little confrontations when they happen unexpectedly like that. Hopefully you had a second to puff out your chest and stand a little taller and just know deep down that you could have squashed him, if you really wanted, and he knew it too.

Count me in. I'll come anywhere just to walk my dogs (with muzzles of course) past his highness. When shall we do it? I'll walk by his work if I have to.

Mine will be in their caged muzzles for a scarier effect.

Hey Bull lover, I dont think were quite ready for that yet lOL but when we walk by with our dogs its WE the voters that he needs to be scared of certainly not the dogs. That will be the hard part, having the pitties looking cute in their muzzles. What ticks me off is the fact that they look so scary in those darn things gives Bryant visual advertising for his stupid ban!!! He just needs to be reminded of Us and that we still havent forgotten HIM! That would be a cool way to do it. We could tie balloons and flowers to our babys. Make it a festive walk, but our presence wouldnt go un-noticed thats for sure LOL Our dogs will soon be used to walking with one another through our co-ops and Bow Wow Pow Wows :)

I totally agree that we won't be looking too fun with our dogs all muzzled up. I am in no way afraid of any dogs, but when you take a look at my dog with a caged muzzle, it kind of makes me a little scared. Hannibal looking.

Perhaps I should go into muzzle making. I mean make muzzles that actually look nice and not scary. Like a floral muzzle, colourful ones, etc. I'd probably make a fortune on them. :D

That's the word I was looking for- Hannibal looking. That's exactly it.

And I think you really should, or somebody should make better muzzles. Like the cage ones? Why not paint them to look like prison bars, or paint a big smile on them...
