Labrador - strange problem with muzzle

My 6 yr old Lab cross recently developed a red sore between nostrils. Her left muzzle now seems as if it's being eaten away. Our vet has tried antibiotics, aloe vera gel, vaseline (petroleum jelly) and has taken a blood test - all to no avail. He does not know what the problem is - any ideas please? Richard

Could it be flesh eating disease? Has your vet done a culture?

He didn't suggest that, just took a blood sample and checked for 'the usual problems' (whatever they are). It's only her muzzle that's affected - otherwise she is fine - appetite, ready for walks etc all OK

Can you ask the vet to do a skin scraping? It's not obviously the muzzle that's chafing against the doggy's skin, is it? I would get a skin scraping and have that tested.

PEMPHIGUS. Would be my first suspicion. Google auto-immune disorders.

Thanks - some though provoking suggestions which I will act on. Prin, no she doesn't rub her nose on anything - seems oblivious of the problem and, generally, is her normal self.
