Labour in a cat

October 15th, 2005, 02:45 AM
HI I have a cat that is close to having her kittens it is down to her last 2 days but today I have clipped around her butt and I have noticed she has a slight blood coming from her Fanny. Is this normal she looks like she is fine and not stressed out just sleeping but I am still worried. :pawprint:

Have you called your vet? If it is foul smelling, your Queen may need a vet visit. If it puslike and dowl smelling, that might indicate a problem pregnancy but only your vet can tell you for sure. That is a Purulent Discharge and indicated the need for a vet! (It may mean an infection of some kind or even of God forbid, pyometra which in and of itself is a great reason to spay a cat - even a titled Queen!)

There may be some discharge just prior to delivery so she must be close to giving birth. Have you checked her temp? Your catís temperature should be between 101 and 102. Fahrenheit. When the petís temperature drops below 100F (98-95F) she should deliver her kittens in less than 34 hrs. Is she nesting?

Here are a couple of good pages on what to expect:

I am happy to say my cat did not have a pussy or smelly discharge the vet said it is quiet normal to have a slight bit of blood mixed with the clear mucus and she is just losing her mucus plug and she is fine and delivery she said will be with in the next day or 2 but she said she is fine and unless it is a bright red and actual blood on its own not to panick and she will check her again tomorrow so thanks for replying but I will let our vet just keep an eye on her just in case
:thumbs up
