Why does my 6 month old puppy still pee on the floor?

I have a bichon shi-tzu puppy who is six months old.I am getting very frustrated. She can stay in her kennel from 8:00 in the morning - 3:30 in the afternoon without needing to go out.she also sleeps through the night just fine.yet when I take her out she will go and within minutes of coming back inside she will just randomly piddle on the floor. She also just does it whenever for no aparent reason.when she started doing this we took her out more often but it doesn't seem to help. What can I do to teach her not to piddle in the house?

has she done this the entire training time?
are you training her to go outside, or do you use pee pads?
when is it exactley that she does this, after you take her out of the crate, after she wakes up in the morning .... ?

Some dogs take a very long time to be house traned ...

Has she always done this? It sounds like she is crate trained but not housetrained. Is she crated overnight? If so, she's spending way too much time caged and just may not know the house is part of the territory that is not be soiled.

What methods do you use to housetrain her?

Thank you for your reply!
She has not done this the entire time.just latly in the past month or so.She is trained to go outside she goes outside all the time.but she doesn't let us know she has to go.so we take her out alot because we don't know when she has to "do buisness".we haven't used peepads since she was 12 weeks old. There is no real pattern!she does it anytime!just whenever the urge hits her.The last time she did it was during a play session.but she has never done it before during playtime.HELP!

She has not always done this just in the past month or so.Yes she is crated overnight.she is NEVER in the crate when we are home and is played with like crazy and also taken for atleast 1 walk a day and each walk is usually 30-45 minutes long. The method that we use to housetrain her initially she was paper trained and we weaned her off of it and took her outside every hour with her and took her out less and less frequently and hoped that she would let us know when she needed to be taken out.but it hasn't worked.lately we have been asking her to SPEAK before taking her outside hoping she would figure it out.the reason we did this was because she likes to lay by the door without necessarily needing to be taken out.HELP!

It is very common for a dog of this age to start having accidents again. You still need to change the behaviour. Does this puppy have more freedom than she had say 2 months ago?
Take advantage of the times you know your puppy has to go. If you take her outside and she doesn't go, bring her in and place in crate for 20 min and try again. Keep doing this until she goes. Once she has she can stay out and play. This shouldn't take too long to correct but she needs to be supervised at all times. If you are not watching her she needs to be in a safe room or crate. She shouldn't at this time be able to leave the room you are in. It is also possible that she is asking someone that isn't paying attention like a child. You may want to train her to use a bell if you haven't figured out her signals yet. Get enzyme cleaner to remove all the smells in your home. If you don't know where they are you can get a black light to find them.

Small dogs often mature early. She could be getting near coming into heat, and this could cause inappropriate urination.

It's probably time to get her spayed.

It doesn't change your dog's energy level but it will reduce her stress. :)

Does it realy reduce her stress?could that be why she keeps having accidents on the floor?because she is stressed? If that is why then what could cause a puppy to get stressed? If I knew what caused her stress then I would try to avoid that.

Dogs that are not fixed that are entering reproductive stages get stressed about finding a mate. That is their goal in life and is determined by surging hormones. If you eliminate the hormones, you eliminate all the stressful behaviors that are related to reproduction, like marking territory, some aggression against competition, and the constant search for mates.

Could also be something medically wrong like a uti.

Thank you for the suggestion but I honestly hope not.I am unfamiliar as to what a uti is.

Urinary tract infection..

Unless it has been ruled out, varied pottying behaviour can be often linked to medical problems. I had a 5 month old pup who pottied on the floor all of a sudden. Sure was a uti, rather than bad behaviour.

I took my dog to the vet last Tuesday and the vet took a urine sample.Later the vet called and it turns out she had a raging bladder infection. We then brought her back and got some pills for her to take in the morning and in the evening. She has only had one accident ion the house in just about a week.(6 days). This for us is amazing because she used to have one every day!if not more then this.thank-you all for helping us find her problem.we never would have thought that she had a medical problem untill later on.Now she is a little angel!
