Cats & Violins

I'm learning the violin and so the noise I make isn't quite "music" yet. I'm mostly just learning the notes and playing them slowly and correctly.

My two cats start acting weird when I play. One paces in and out of the room crying/singing/meowing... I'm not sure what. The other gets all clingy and tries to sit on my lap.

Am I hurting their ears or something? Granted some of the noise may not be pleasant but is there some reason they're acting so strange? Should I shut them away if I am hurting them?

When I first started playing the violin, my dog at the time (dalmation) would howl endlessly at me. I don't think it's an overly-pleasent sound for them

Another thing I notice is that both of them will try and climb into my case and huddle in there.. at the same time.

I also have to constantly push the little one off of me coz all of a sudden he's super sucky and won't leave me alone.

Crazy cats. Just hope I'm not hurting them.

How adorable! You've got musical cats. And critics, too, apparently.

Maybe you sound like a cat in trouble...

Hmm... I never thought of that. Injured/troubled cat. Anything I can do to reassure them all's OK?

I wouldn't worry too much. It's a new, (and no offense) pretty harsh sound. They should get used to it with time (and practice ;) )
