Someone told me recently that the Solid Gold HOlistic had to be supplemented with something else because alone it is not sufficient. I didn't pay attention and now need to know the answer.

Prin, anyone have you heard this?

Copperbelle, while trying to find Timberwolf Organics Ocean Blue I spoke with the distributor (I gather Timberwolf and Solid Gold are the same manufacturer maybe) and explained my food issues with Halo. He mentioned the Solid Gold Holistic but said that because this product is low protein and low fat it would not be a good food for a young healthy dog. It would be suitable for an older dog, overweight dog or dog with kidney issues he said.

Hope that helps you. Again, this was from the distributor - he seems fairly knowledgeable but that was the scoop.

I don't know. Because Solid Gold recommends the Sea meal with all their foods, some people take it as they have to feed it with the sea meal because it isn't complete...

This is what it says on their site:
Dry food formula made with Oatmeal, Rye, Menhaden Herring and Potatoes. Ideal for less active adult or senior dogs, to maintain total health. Perfect for those dogs who require less protein and fat. So it makes sense that for an active doggy, energy (fat and protein especially) would be missing.. Right?

Thank you. That is exactly what I was told. I will pass the information along.
I told someone how pleased I was with the food and she decided to buy Solid Gold. Her dog has allergies. When she went to a store the retailer told her to buy the Holistic food instead of the Wolf King. When she told me I knew there was something about the food that was not complete but could not remember.

Thanks again.

As Prin knows from my other thread, which you also resonded to , Halo has allergies and she did not do well on Wolf King. I am looking into O Naturals Salmon food right now. Will let you guys know when I get an ingredient list. I think Halo's is a meat protein allergy. We just started using the Solid Gold Sea Meal this week too, so let's hope. Right now she's eating Wellness whitefish and sweet potato and that seems to be going okay so far. :fingerscr
